Gangnam Japanese restaurant for potato curry: Gyuen Dang
In short
Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch is a Japanese restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul, near Seolleung Station. My daughter and I enjoyed rich potato curry, Brie cheese omurice, and crisp squid fritters. All three dishes made for a satisfying Seolleung lunch.

A Seolleung Station lunch spot with a youthful feel
These days, wherever you go, you see lots of places started and run directly by young owners. Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch in Gangnam, where we had lunch near Seolleung Station today, was one of those places with a young owner’s sensibility. As soon as we opened the door and stepped inside, the clean, stylish atmosphere that young people seem to like these days caught my eye. Rather than being decorated extravagantly, everything necessary was neatly arranged, with youthful touches here and there.

Ordering potato curry and Brie cheese omurice
For our Seolleung Station lunch in Gangnam, we ordered potato curry, Brie cheese omurice, squid fritters, and one bottle of Coke Zero. Before long, the canned cola arrived first, alongside a cup filled to the brim with ice.

Personally, I really love cold drinks. I am the kind of person who eats ice even in winter, so just seeing a cup packed with ice put me in a good mood for no reason. Haha. While my little daughter and I were freshening our palates with sips of cold cola, the potato curry arrived first among the dishes we ordered.

Potato curry that was almost too pretty to eat
When the potato curry first arrived, it looked so pretty that although I had to eat it, I somehow felt it was a shame to do so. Seeing it plated so beautifully, I hesitated just a little before lifting my spoon and ruining its shape. Haha. But food is not laid out just to be looked at; it is there to be eaten, so I picked up my spoon and carefully broke into the potato curry’s pretty appearance. Haha.

I tasted the curry first. The instant I put a spoonful in my mouth, its deep curry flavor clung wonderfully to my palate, and as someone who usually loves curry, I thought, can curry really taste this good? Haha. As I ate the potato curry at this Seolleung Station Japanese restaurant, I looked at my little daughter.

The best thing I have ever done in my life was having you born as my daughter. Haha.
Thanks to my little daughter, I was eating such delicious, top-notch food, and for a moment at Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch today, I was reminded again what a happy mother I am. (That is how delicious it was, haha.) Still, thoughts belong in the head, and I continued eating what was in front of me. Haha. Sitting lightly atop the potato curry were zucchini fritters and a potato croquette. First, the zucchini fritters tasted...

Crisp on the outside and moist inside, they made my little daughter and me look at each other and smile happily at the same time. The zucchini fritters also paired beautifully with the curry. Next, the potato croquette was crisp outside, with a soft filling that blended with the taste of vegetables, and it was delicious dipped in the curry too.

How we ate the Brie cheese omurice
Next, we tried the Brie cheese omurice, which made my mouth water just looking at it. There was a way to eat the omurice at Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch. Carefully cut through the middle so the egg can slowly open; as the knife passes through, the egg naturally blooms open like a flower.

Once the egg opens in the middle, pour the sauce over it so that it runs down. You can eat it however you like, but we mixed the egg, Brie cheese, hambagu (Japanese-style hamburger steak) sauce, and rice together.

Brie cheese omurice was a flavor I was trying for the first time personally, but the soft egg and rice came together with Brie’s savory, creamy flavor, making it feel as though it gently melted in my mouth. I wondered if it might be too rich because of the cheese, but it was less heavy than expected, and its subtle savory flavor quietly drew me in. It had a charm quite different from the omurice I usually eat.

Squid fritters lighter than the Ojjang from our trips
Lastly, Gyuen Dang’s squid fritters. My little daughter and I had tried Ojjang, a popular deep-fried whole squid snack, while traveling, and sometimes we would remember the taste and say, “Why does the neighborhood where I live not sell Ojjang? It would do well if someone sold it.” The squid fritters we ate today were lighter and more savory than the Ojjang we had eaten on those trips, and they tasted wonderful. They were so good that if we had been going straight home after lunch, I would have wanted to take some away. If you visit this Seolleung Station lunch restaurant, I would recommend trying the squid fritters.
At Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch in Gangnam, every dish, from the potato curry to the squid fritters, tasted absolutely wonderful.
