Seoul Forest ramen restaurant for beef cutlet tomato ramen: Menya Pomo

In short

Menya Pomo Seoul Forest Branch is a ramen restaurant in Seongdong, Seoul, serving tomato-based ramen with Korean beef cutlet. I compared the tom yum Korean beef cutlet ramen set and beef-bone broth version at spice level 2, then made risotto with basil cheese rice. Verdict: a filling, memorable tomato ramen meal.

Tomato ramen near Ttukseom Station

I was looking for a good ramen place for a simple lunch near home for the first time in a while, and found Menya Pomo Seoul Forest Branch!! It’s five minutes from Exit 8 of Ttukseom Station.

I took a moment to consider things while looking over the menu board out front~

The restaurant is on the second floor, so just head up the stairs. On the way up, the speaker kept saying something like, “Welcome!” haha.

Cozy seating and a self-service bar

Maybe because I came for a slightly late lunch, there weren’t many people. There are lots of seats, and the lighting is so cozy! The brown interior is super pretty~~

Here’s the self-service bar! Fun fact: I refilled that house-made cabbage, haha. Steamed rice is free too, so make sure to have some with your ramen~ (I didn’t because I added basil cheese rice.)

You order from the kiosk at your table, and there’s pepper, garlic oil, spicy chili, and more ready for you. Beside the table, there’s also an introduction to the sauces and instructions for making delicious risotto, so take a look!!

Ordering tom yum and beef-bone Korean beef cutlet ramen

Today’s order was the tom yum Korean beef cutlet ramen SET, beef-bone broth Korean beef cutlet ramen, and fried shrimp! You get a discount when ordering a set, and takeout is discounted by up to 23%! I’m a tomato ramen fan too, and I loved that the base here is tomato itself—and that you can adjust the spice level.

Tom yum Korean beef cutlet ramen set

The tom yum Korean beef cutlet ramen SET was ₩22,000. It comes with ramen, 2 pieces of karaage (Japanese fried chicken), cheese rice or basil cheese rice, and one drink! I chose spice level 2, basil cheese rice, and cola. Doesn’t it look so good?!

Since I could adjust the spice, I went with level 2. It says it’s twice as spicy as Shin Ramyun, but even though I’m terrible with spicy food, it wasn’t that hot. It was just right. The tangy, spicy tomato broth with tom yum flavor has just the right warming kick—such a memorable flavor!

The karaage and basil cheese rice from the set. The karaage was so delicious—I wanted to order more from the sides menu! The basil on top is the key to the basil cheese rice. The table had instructions for turning it into delicious risotto too.

The clean-tasting beef-bone Korean beef cutlet ramen

The beef-bone Korean beef cutlet ramen was ₩16,500. This menu wasn’t here the last time I came, but it had been added?! Level 2 was perfect for this one too! Compared with the tom yum, this had a much cleaner flavor. Rich, savory beef-bone broth meets tomato’s fresh umami! Once I broke the egg yolk, it became thick and luscious. Adding the pepper and spicy chili powder at the table gave it yet another flavor! And the basil rice risotto at the end went so well with it.

Fried shrimp I ordered again

The fried shrimp was ₩4,500. I fell for it when I had it last time, so I ordered it again! This time, we got greedy and each had our own, haha. The shrimp are plump, and the batter goes so well with the sauce!!

Meal finished, and I was sooo full!! There’s also a branch in Seongsu, so I think you can go to whichever one is closer.

Table after finishing the meal

Rice in tomato broth, too

Menya Pomo Seoul Forest Branch is a Seoul Forest spot I’d recommend to anyone looking for unusual ramen, because you can enjoy tomato’s refreshing taste alongside ramen’s savory umami! Tomato ramen was a better combination than I expected, and the Korean beef cutlet made it a satisfying full meal too. Adding rice to the leftover broth and enjoying it like risotto was another treat, so the meal stayed delicious to the very end. If you’re looking for something less common around Seoul Forest, or if you love tomato ramen, I think it’s worth visiting at least once! 🍅
