Seongsu restaurant for octopus avocado carpaccio: Billadeubeulleu

In short

Billadeubeulleu Seongsu is a terrace brunch restaurant in Seongdong, Seoul. I tried the ₩25,000 abalone squid-ink risotto, ₩21,000 octopus avocado carpaccio, and ₩9,000 gnocchi frittes. The tender octopus with fresh dill oil was the clear winner.

When the weather is lovely like it has been lately, you naturally start looking for great terrace spots. I visited a brunch restaurant near Seoul Forest with a beautiful terrace.

Billadeubeulleu Seongsu location and visit information

It is on the first floor at 46-10 Seoulsoop 2-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, about 300 m from Seoul Forest Station Exit 5. It is open Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 to 21:00 and Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 to 22:00, with a break from 15:30 to 17:00. It is closed every Monday and has no dedicated parking.

Exterior of Billadeubeulleu Seongsu in a Seoul Forest alley

Billadeubeulleu Seongsu is easy to reach on foot from Seoul Forest Station. Rather than being right on a main road, it sits deeper in an alley around Seoul Forest. As you walk through the alley, the white exterior and blue awning really catch your eye, so it was easy to find. There is also a menu posted in front, which is handy for checking the dishes and prices before you go in without a reservation.

What are the terrace and interior like?

Terrace seating at Billadeubeulleu Seongsu

What I especially loved at Billadeubeulleu Seongsu was this terrace! It was around 25–26°C when I visited—not hot or cold—so it was absolutely perfect for eating outside.

Interior in white and blue tones

White and blue are the main colors indoors too. The combination of tile and wooden furniture made it feel bright and fresh yet warm. I also liked that the tables were spaced a reasonable distance apart. Conversations at neighboring tables did not feel too close, so I think it would work well not only for a date, but also for a get-together with friends or a wedding-invitation gathering where you want to talk at leisure. If you visit in a season with nice weather, I would especially recommend the terrace over indoors.

The menu and what we ordered

Pasta and risotto menu

The menu is quite varied, from pasta and risotto to steak, gnocchi, and seafood dishes. Signature dishes include Aligot Cheese Lasagna for ₩22,000, Gorgon Truffle Cream Gnocchi for ₩21,000, and Abalone Squid-Ink Risotto for ₩25,000, and you can also order Butter Sizzling T-Bone Steak.

Sparkling wine event notice

There was also an event worth noticing if you enjoy wine. At the time of my visit, unlimited sparkling wine was available for ₩12,000 per person. The catch was that every adult seated at the table had to order it. Such an appealing price if you love the combination of brunch and sparkling wine! It was a limited event, though, so be sure to check whether it is still running when you visit.

We ordered the Abalone Squid-Ink Risotto for ₩25,000, Octopus Avocado Carpaccio for ₩21,000, and Gnocchi Frittes for ₩9,000.

Crisp and chewy gnocchi frittes

The gnocchi frittes arrived first. Since they are fried, they were crisp outside, while the distinctive chewiness of gnocchi remained inside—unlike typical cream gnocchi. There was a really generous amount of cheese on top, so they were flavorful enough on their own; dipped in the accompanying aioli, they gained a slightly salty, tangy savory note.

Best of all, the ₩9,000 portion was quite generous. It is a great dish for several people to share, and the perfect side when ordering mains alone feels a little lacking. I also recommend it because it is not a menu item you often see elsewhere!

Gently cooked abalone squid-ink risotto

Next came the Abalone Squid-Ink Risotto. I expected a completely black risotto, but it contained cream, so its color was softer than expected. Abalone sat on top, and there were generously sized pieces of cuttlefish in the risotto. What satisfied me most about this dish was how well all the ingredients were cooked.

Neither the abalone nor the cuttlefish was tough; both were incredibly tender, and the rice was cooked well without becoming too mushy or hard. It was not the kind of dish where the distinct squid-ink flavor comes on too strongly, either. With the cream mixed in, it was nutty and smooth overall, so I think even people new to squid-ink dishes could enjoy it comfortably.

My top pick of the day: octopus avocado carpaccio

And my top pick of the day was the Octopus Avocado Carpaccio! It is categorized as a main dish on the menu, but when ordering, I thought of it as a light appetizer. Even when the plate first arrived, it did not look especially large, but as I ate, the portion turned out to be more generous than expected.

Finely chopped octopus, avocado, and vegetables came together beautifully. The octopus was so tender, and the avocado was nicely ripened, so everything melted together softly in the mouth. The light-green dill oil around the plate was the key! Dill's fragrant character was added just enough not to cover the seafood, making the whole dish fresh and bright.

This would be so delicious with white wine.

I would especially recommend it if you enjoy bright, citrusy seafood dishes. It was the pairing I kept thinking about while eating it. This is the number-one dish I would order again next time :)

A terrace brunch that pairs well with a Seoul Forest walk

On cool days like these, I think Billadeubeulleu really comes into its own. Have a leisurely brunch on the terrace, then head straight into a walk around Seoul Forest—perfect for a weekend date! Beyond dates, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a place where they can talk comfortably, whether for brunch with a friend, a family meal, or a wedding-invitation gathering. If you want both delicious food and a proper outdoor atmosphere near Seoul Forest, enjoy a terrace brunch at Billadeubeulleu Seongsu while the weather is lovely.
