Mapo lamb BBQ restaurant with bar seats for a date: Gukjeyangsik
In short
Gukjeyangsik is a lamb rib specialist in Mapo, Seoul, a 4-minute walk from Hapjeong Station and within strolling distance of Mangridan-gil. Booking bar seats at Gukjeyangsik came with the 2-person premium grill set (French rack, shoulder rack, stir-fried bean sprouts on the brazier, tacos, assorted vegetables), and staff grilled the lamb at the brazier, moving pieces onto each plate before wrapping the last of the meat and vegetables in tortillas. A good fit for a dinner date where you want to talk instead of watching the grill.

I went to "Gukjeyangsik," a restaurant near Hapjeong Station! It's a distance you can walk from a date on Mangridan-gil, so it'd work well as part of a dinner date course. I was curious because I heard the staff grill the lamb ribs for you, and it turned out to be an even more comfortable meal than I expected ( ˘͈ ᵕ ˘͈ )

Walking to Gukjeyangsik from Hapjeong Station via Mangridan-gil

Gukjeyangsik is about a 4-minute walk from Hapjeong Station, so it's easy to reach by public transit, and it's also a nice walk over if you've been on a date around Mangridan-gil.

Budweiser draft 2+1! And corkage is free for up to one bottle per type, so this seems like a great spot for group dinners or gatherings too ..💬🩶
Where to park at Gukjeyangsik if you drive
If you're driving, keep the restaurant building on your right and turn right along the building — there's a surface parking lot behind it. When entering the lot, backing in apparently makes parking and exiting a bit easier, so keep that in mind! 🚗
Inside Gukjeyangsik: room seats vs. bar seats
We visited around 5pm and even at that early hour the place was almost full. So I quickly snapped photos whenever guests were leaving..

The restaurant is largely split between room-style seating with separated spaces and bar seating. The rooms don't have doors that fully close, but each spot is sectioned off enough that it felt nicely separated from the next table.
At the bar seats, there's a built-in storage space along the wall where guests can put their belongings in a numbered slot. It was nice not having to set your bag on the floor and not having to worry about it while the meat was grilling. At charcoal grill places, I always worry a bit about smell getting into my clothes or bag, so having somewhere separate to store your things felt like a thoughtful touch!

Gukjeyangsik also has a variety of drinks ready to go — wine, highballs, and traditional liquor. Good for enjoying a drink alongside meat like we did, or for picking something that suits your taste. If you join the Naver receipt review event you can also get homemade tiramisu, so give that a try!

Our reserved bar seats! Everything was neatly set up in advance haha

Individual sauces, pickled cabbage, and tableware are set out for each person

For the basic side dishes: sautéed carrot and zucchini, pickled cherry tomatoes, and macaroni salad!

How staff grill the lamb, and what comes in the 2-person premium set
Each seat has its own charcoal grill, and here the staff grill the meat for you directly! We didn't need to grill anything ourselves — a staff member watched over and grilled everything piece by piece, which made the meal genuinely easy to enjoy. I liked not having to worry about grilling timing and being able to just focus on conversation. It seemed like a great fit for a date or a blind date, where you want to talk while you eat. Ordering was done through the tablet at the table, so we could order comfortably without needing to call staff over.
2-person premium grill set (French rack, shoulder rack, grilled beansprouts, tacos, assorted vegetables)
It's a well-rounded combo for enjoying lamb ribs and sides together, and a good order for two people!
French rack, shoulder rack, and stir-fried bean sprouts

The French rack and shoulder rack that arrived after ordering! The meat itself looked fresh and appetizing in color, which got me even more excited •• ᵔ⤙ᵔ 🥄 They use young lamb from Australia and operate on a same-day-trimmed, same-day-used principle!
The staff member grilled the meat over the charcoal along with the assorted vegetables until golden brown, and honestly, the visual was amazing 🥺

The beansprouts were crisp but had a deep smoky char flavor soaked in — I kept reaching for just those even on their own. I meant to eat them alongside the lamb, but I ended up grabbing the beansprouts over and over and they disappeared fast...

The outside cooked to a golden brown while the inside stayed juicy and moist!

The staff member kept placing the cooked meat onto our small plates. We just sat there and ate what was given... like baby birds, receiving one piece at a time, but it was actually really comfortable and nice haha. I'd especially recommend this to anyone who finds grilling meat a hassle 🤍

The assorted vegetables were grilled together with the meat too — mushrooms, kkwarigochu (shishito-style peppers), scallions, kimchi, garlic, onion, and more, which I liked for the variety. They weren't overcooked into mush either, just nicely browned, which made them perfect alongside the meat!

The tortilla taco finish at Gukjeyangsik
Once we finished the meat, they grilled a tortilla and filled it with finely chopped meat and vegetables — this was genuinely a standout dish.
Wrapping the meat and vegetables we'd already eaten into a tortilla made for the perfect finishing course (๑´ڡ`๑)♡

You add as much tomato salsa and ranch sauce as you like — the tangy salsa combined with the savory ranch gave a totally different flavor from eating the lamb on its own 🤍

On our way out after paying, I noticed there was Febreze set up by the entrance. Since it's a meat restaurant, smell after the meal can be a concern, so having that ready felt like a thoughtful touch.

There were also tons of celebrity autographs on one wall of the restaurant, which was fun to look at haha!
Is Gukjeyangsik worth it for a dinner date?
This was a place where a staff member personally handles the grilling, and you get to enjoy a whole range of dishes at once — meat, grilled beansprouts, vegetables, and tacos. If you're looking for somewhere to walk to for dinner after a date on Mangridan-gil, I'd recommend Gukjeyangsik!! For anyone hunting for good restaurants near Hapjeong Station, a place to drink near Hapjeong Station, or looking to properly enjoy lamb ribs in Hapjeong, this is worth a visit ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
