Jocheon black pork restaurant with English tablet menu: Jeju Samchun

In short

Jeju Samchun is an aged Jeju black pork restaurant on Sinbuk-ro in Jocheon-eup, a 5-minute walk from Hamdeok Beach. A family of three including a child shared the Samchun Set 800g — pork neck, five-layer pork belly and bone-in ribeye — which staff grilled into bite-size pieces on a cast-iron plate over charcoal, and the tablet menu also shows English and Chinese. The breadcrumb salt and the free kimchi jjigae from the Naver review event were the highlights at Jeju Samchun.

Today's post is about black pork, a must on any trip to Jeju. This Jocheon restaurant near Sono Belle Jeju, where we stayed, uses wet-aged low-temperature aging for tender meat and smoking for full flavor. It was such a great place to eat with a kid — highly recommend Jeju Samchun (제주삼춘) near Hamdeok Beach for black pork in Hamdeok.

Where is Jeju Samchun, and what are the hours?

Jeju Samchun is a 5-minute walk from Hamdeok Beach. It's open daily from 12:00 to 23:00, with last order at 22:00.

Stone-wall exterior and the garden view through the picture window

Jeju Samchun specializes in aged Jeju black pork. The stone-wall interior and simple, clean exterior really caught my eye, full of Jeju vibes. And the garden view through the big window inside — you can really feel Jeju while you eat, which made this Jocheon spot even better.

Seating and the tablet menu in English and Chinese

The entrance-side seats are mostly connected 4-tops, and you can push them together for about 8 people.

The inner seating looked like it could hold more people, so group dinners work too. Lots of foreign visitors come here, and they can pull up the English or Chinese menu right on a tablet, which seemed to make things easy.

Is the Samchun Set 800g enough for three, including a child?

We ordered the Samchun Set, made up of pork neck, pork belly, and bone-in ribeye 🩷 A generous 800g, it was just the right amount for our family of three, including our kid.

Side dishes and the breadcrumb salt

The side dishes (banchan) came out quickly after ordering — the scallion salad and cucumber salad were really good.

What was unusual was that they served breadcrumb salt and myeongran (salted pollock roe) to eat alongside the meat. Dipping the meat in the crispy breadcrumb salt — the texture was amazing!! Savory and delicious, I asked for a refill.

Since we were in Jeju eating black pork, we tried a Hallasan soju too — added a bottle of the Original.

Charcoal, cast-iron plate and the smoky black pork

A cast-iron plate went on top of the charcoal, and the way it heated up and grilled the meat perfectly was amazing too.

The Samchun Set meat comes smoked, full of that char-grilled aroma.

Staff grill it for you: why dinner was easy with a kid

This Jocheon restaurant grills the meat to perfection for you, so even with a kid in tow, you can easily enjoy black pork at Jeju Samchun. Being aged, the color of the meat stood out from the start.

The thick cuts were sliced into easy bite-size pieces and cooked through nicely on the inside too. Watching the black pork sizzle away in real time genuinely made me hungrier!

The well-cooked pieces were moved to one side of the plate so they were easy to grab, and our kid could enjoy properly grilled black pork with no trouble. We piled it up with the wrap vegetables and dug in.

The breadcrumb salt was the kicker. Its crisp texture went so well with the juicy black pork — the kind of juiciness you just don't get on the mainland. Truly the real deal.

Tried a piece dipped in melljeot (fermented anchovy sauce) too, for a salty kick.

You can't have such good food to drink with without a drink. That bottle of Hallasan Original just kept going down smoothly.

How about black pork wrapped in dried laver? The pairing with raw gim (dried seaweed) was surprisingly good too.

Eating like this, we cleared the whole black pork set in no time.

Finishing with the review-event kimchi jjigae

For the last course, we had the kimchi jjigae we got from the review event. Wow!!! You absolutely have to order this. Well-fermented kimchi with big chunks of pork inside, the pork so tender it pulled apart along the grain — with rice, a whole bowl disappeared in no time! You have to order the kimchi jjigae, no question.

Added one more bottle of Hallasan alongside the kimchi jjigae. On the last, bittersweet day of our Jeju trip, this delicious black pork really helped make up for it.

Is Jeju Samchun worth a stop near Hamdeok Beach?

Grilled black pork was something our kid had really wanted to eat even before the Jeju trip. Having the staff grill it for us at such a clean restaurant made the meal so easy, and I'd definitely recommend getting the kimchi jjigae. Rice, the meal, the meat — we ate well all around. That's my honest review of Jeju Samchun, the black pork restaurant near Hamdeok Beach.
