Work has been insanely busy lately, so I basically pass out the moment I get home... I haven't been out to eat much because of it. But I happened to visit a charcoal rib place near my house and it was so good I had to write a post for the first time in a while!!

Jeju Boncham Sutbul Galbi sits near the Nohyeong-dong five-way intersection. There were quite a few restaurants nearby, but this one clearly had the crowd — it already seemed to be a well-known spot.

Where to park in Nohyeong-dong: the Withers Jeju lot, 50m away

The most satisfying part of the whole visit was the parking! Nohyeong-dong is hell for finding a spot on weekends if you bring a car, so I was a bit worried. But Jeju Boncham Sutbul Galbi lets you use the parking lot at the Withers Jeju building, just 50m from the restaurant. It's close and the lot is spacious, so even on a weekend, I parked right away without circling around looking for a spot.

How busy is Jeju Boncham Sutbul Galbi on a weekend night?

Walking in, the interior of Jeju Boncham Sutbul Galbi was bigger than expected. Even with a huge crowd on the weekend, the tables and the whole space were kept clean and well-managed.

Busy BBQ places can often feel chaotic, but here the staff kept checking on the tables constantly, and the whole place felt organized.

What we ordered that day at Jeju Boncham Sutbul Galbi: fresh ribs / black pork belly / marinated ribs, one serving of each! I tried a bit of everything, haha.

Best side dish at Jeju Boncham Sutbul Galbi: the steamed egg

Before the meat even arrived, the side dishes came out in force — quite a lot of variety, which was great. With so many little things to pair with the meat, the table already looked pretty hearty.

Among them, my top pick was the steamed egg (gyeranjjim). It was so soft and tasty that I kept scooping it up even before the meat showed up, haha.

Grilled over real charcoal, not gas

Jeju Boncham Sutbul Galbi grills the meat over real charcoal instead of gas. The heat is strong so the meat cooks fast, and grilling directly over charcoal adds a smoky flavor that made it even better.

Fresh ribs: the best of the three cuts

First up, the fresh ribs. Personally, of the three, this was the best!

Fresh ribs grilled with a smoky char

Grilled straight over the charcoal, they had a nutty flavor plus that smoky char that kept me reaching for more.

Charcoal fire is intense, so grilling it well while managing the heat takes a lot of effort — but here, the staff kept an eye on it and grilled the meat for us themselves, so we could just eat comfortably.

Eating the well-grilled rib meat with pickled onions was nutty and soft — such a great pairing!

A thick piece of black pork belly

Next, the black pork belly. The cut was quite thick, and grilled golden-brown over the charcoal, it was delicious.

Cut into bite-sized pieces for easy eating, yum yum, haha. A different flavor from the fresh ribs, but just as good.

A plate of sweet marinated ribs

Marinated ribs: the familiar crowd-pleaser

Last, the marinated ribs! Sweet marinated ribs are a familiar taste, and that familiarity makes them even more delicious.

Marinated ribs grilled without burning

Marinated ribs burn easily over open flame, but thanks to the staff grilling them carefully, we got to enjoy them without any burnt bits.

Plate of finished grilled meat

The place was big and packed with customers, but they never lost track of our table and kept checking on us, so we could eat comfortably.

Naengmyeon ordered for dessert

Finishing with naengmyeon (cold noodles)

After thoroughly working through all three types of meat, we ordered naengmyeon (cold noodles)! We got it as a dessert-slash-meal, and it was refreshing to finish with at the end.

Is Jeju Boncham Sutbul Galbi worth a second visit?

Overall, Jeju Boncham Sutbul Galbi was satisfying — a wide range of side dishes and friendly staff. And above all, being able to go without any parking stress in Nohyeong-dong was a big plus. Even with the huge crowd, the staff kept checking on us and grilled the meat for us themselves, making it a comfortable meal! A place I'd want to visit again next time I'm craving charcoal-grilled meat. Highly recommend Jeju Boncham Sutbul Galbi as a go-to spot near Jeju Grand Hyatt and in Jeju Nohyeong-dong!!
