Solo dining at a Seocho tonkatsu restaurant: king shrimp katsu at Kosi
In short
Kosi Gyodae Branch is a sanuki udon and tonkatsu restaurant near Exit 14 of Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul. On a solo dinner after work, the writer took a bar-style counter seat at Kosi Gyodae Branch and ordered the mixed katsu set for 18,000 won, which pairs thick-cut tonkatsu and king shrimp katsu with kake udon (hot udon in light broth). The king shrimp katsu was big and crisp enough to order again on its own, making Kosi Gyodae Branch an easy pick for eating alone.

Stopped by Gyodae Station after work for dinner at Kosi Gyodae Branch, a tonkatsu spot near the station! :-)
Visited on August 25, 2026, and ordered the mixed katsu set for ₩18,000.

Kosi Gyodae Branch menu and prices
Kosi Gyodae Branch has a separate menu board outside, so it was nice to check the prices and menu before going in! Since it's an udon specialty restaurant, they had several kinds — cold udon, hot udon, kama udon, mazemen-style hot udon —

and tonkatsu, which pairs perfectly (?) with udon, was also on the menu!

Inside Kosi Gyodae Branch: where to sit when eating alone
Kosi Gyodae Branch seats solo diners at the bar-style counter. Even though I came early in the evening, there were already quite a few customers, so I didn't get to take many photos of the interior^^; Since I was dining alone, I was seated at the bar counter!

There were also table seats like this, but they were mostly 4-person tables — as evening set in, a group of guys came pouring in, maybe from a nearby school lol, and I could see a lot of office workers too(^^)*

Table setting at Kosi Gyodae Branch, a solid Gyodae tonkatsu spot — spoon, chopsticks, tonkatsu sauce, salad dressing, sesame seeds, wet wipes, all set up,

and the self-serve corner had pickled radish and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) ready to go!

While I waited for my order, I browsed the country-of-origin label board off in the distance lol — everything was domestic Korean except the shrimp, pork, and flour... surprised me!

What comes with the 18,000 won mixed katsu set
The mixed katsu set at Kosi Gyodae Branch comes with tonkatsu, king shrimp katsu, and udon for ₩18,000. Finally, the mixed katsu set arrived! I ordered tonkatsu for the protein, but since it's an udon specialty place, I couldn't skip trying the udon either, so I went for the set! You could add tonkatsu to a bowl of udon instead lol, but I wanted more tonkatsu, so I went with the set menu —

I don't often see king shrimp katsu around, so I ordered it to see how it'd be(^^)*

The tonkatsu was thick-cut too -*

I used to like dipping tonkatsu straight into the sauce, but lately I find myself dipping it lightly in salt first to taste the pork itself lol. There was salt and wasabi, so I tried a bite with a little of each 'ㅇ'*

Then I tried dipping it in tonkatsu sauce with ground sesame mixed in lol — both were good, so I alternated between them haha

Which udon comes with the set? Kake udon explained
The udon that comes with the mixed katsu set is kake udon, which is a hot udon!

The kake udon had noodles that were noticeably thick with a slightly chewy texture

Why the king shrimp katsu steals the set
What I was most looking forward to in the mixed katsu set at Kosi Gyodae Branch was the king shrimp katsu. I cut off the head with the scissors they provided and dipped it in sauce — seriously delicious..>.<

Being king shrimp katsu, the shrimp itself was huge and thick, but fried so well it was crispy, and I ate it up so happily! I wanted to order king shrimp katsu on its own as an extra^_ㅠlol (though there's a fried shrimp side on the menu, I'm not sure if it's the same as the king shrimp katsu ㅠ^ㅠ)
The combo of tonkatsu + king shrimp katsu + udon was great at Kosi Gyodae Branch, a solid tonkatsu spot near Gyodae Station! Seems good for solo dining like I did too :-) Recommended! lol
