Seocho tonkatsu restaurant for a weekday dinner set meal: Kosi Gyodae

In short

Kosi Gyodae Branch is a tonkatsu, udon, and gyudon set-meal restaurant a three-minute walk from Exit 14 of Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul. On a Monday evening four of us — the writer and a friend couple — got in after one party's wait and shared the bukkake udon set (chilled udon with dipping sauce poured over), the half-and-half tonkatsu set, and the gyudon set. The bukkake udon set is the pick for anyone who can't skip noodles, while the half-and-half tonkatsu set is best for tasting the katsu properly.

Monday evening, tired but hungry, and somehow craving tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet)? So I headed straight there without a second thought — Kosi Gyodae Branch.

I really love this brand, so it felt like a waste to just go with two of us, so I called up a friend couple haha. It's a place where you can try not just tonkatsu but udon and gyudon too, so we each ordered what we wanted and shared it all together lol — an even more satisfying dinner. Let's go through it together lol.

Where is Kosi Gyodae, and is there parking? 3 minutes from Gyodae Station Exit 14

Kosi Gyodae Branch is a 3-minute walk from Exit 14 of Gyodae Station, so it's in a really convenient spot to visit. It's easy to get to by subway, and there was space in front of the shop for about two cars too.

That said, the parking spaces aren't plentiful, so if you're planning to drive, it's best to check ahead with the restaurant about availability. Accessibility itself is excellent though. I walked there, and it was easy to find.

How long is the wait at Kosi Gyodae on a weekday evening?

At 7pm on a weekday, there was one party waiting at Kosi Gyodae Branch, and we got in quickly. We'd planned to meet at 7, and my friend's couple actually arrived before us — turns out one party was already waiting.

Luckily it was just one party so we got in fast, but that shows how popular this place is — I'd recommend evening over lunchtime. Last time I came for lunch the wait was too long and I gave up. There are tons of restaurants around Gyodae, but Kosi still draws a line true to form.

Inside Kosi Gyodae: the mood and the solo-dining zone

Kosi Gyodae Branch has a clean, comfortable atmosphere overall. Rather than feeling overly formal, it has a friendly vibe where anyone can walk in and eat with ease. Since it was a weekday evening, there were customers who'd come for dinner after work, along with groups like us.

On one side of the restaurant there's also a solo-dining zone where guests eating alone can sit comfortably. These days plenty of people enjoy a proper meal on their own, right? Even if eating alone at a regular table feels a bit awkward, Kosi Gyodae Branch makes it relatively comfortable.

What's on the menu at Kosi Gyodae

The menu centers on tonkatsu sets but also includes a range of udon and gyudon dishes. It's not just a tonkatsu-only spot — you can pick according to your taste, which is nice.

We ordered the bukkake udon set, the half-and-half tonkatsu set, and the gyudon set. Choosing different dishes made the whole spread look even more abundant. The restaurant also has a self-serve corner for side dishes and sauces you might need. Just take as much as you need!

Bukkake udon set — my favorite dish at Kosi Gyodae

This is what I ordered. Bukkake udon set!! It's a dish where you enjoy chewy, springy udon noodles with a cold, savory sauce. Pairing tonkatsu, which can feel heavy on its own, with udon actually works really well haha.

Springy, chewy bukkake udon noodles

The noodles had a lively, chewy texture, and the sauce wasn't overly salty or sharp, so it was easy to eat without feeling weighed down. This is my favorite lol.

I'd recommend it to anyone like me who wants tonkatsu but can't give up noodles either lol.

Gyudon set — the filling rice option

You already know gyudon (beef rice bowl) is sweet and savory seasoned meat served over rice, right? The tender meat and seasoning blend naturally into the rice — the kind of flavor that keeps you going spoonful after spoonful!!

Recommended for days when you're craving rice over tonkatsu, or when you want a warm, filling meal. With everything that comes alongside it, it's quite a filling set.

Half-and-half tonkatsu set — two kinds of katsu on one plate

I'd recommend the half-and-half tonkatsu set to anyone who finds it a shame to pick just one type of tonkatsu. You get to try two different cutlets at once, so true to its name, the satisfaction is doubled!

Cross-section of the crispy breading on the half-and-half tonkatsu

The outside was fried crisp while the inside stayed soft and juicy — savory with every bite. The breading wasn't too thick, so you could fully enjoy the texture and flavor of the meat. If you want to really taste Kosi Gyodae Branch's tonkatsu, the half-and-half set is a great choice!
