Guys tend to need cuts more often, and depending on your hair type a down perm is basically mandatory 😇😇 My boyfriend Tochi has straight hair that grows back super fast, so a cut and down perm every single month is non-negotiable. "Divers Barbershop" Gangnam-gu Office Station Branch is 11m from Exit 2 of Gangnam-gu Office Station, in the basement level of SK Herb Blue ✔️ Walk into the basement shopping area and once you spot this green storefront, that's it — this is the barbershop 💚 It's easy to reach by car too 👍 just park in the building's basement lot and ask staff at the counter to register your license plate ✔️

Inside Divers Barbershop: interior and seating

This is the inside of "Divers Barbershop" ✔️ It's a men-only barbershop, but honestly it felt cleaner and more nicely decorated with an antique touch than plenty of women's salons — I was genuinely surprised 🤍 There were two styling chairs and two barbers on duty. Today's full down perm and cut was handled by barber "JEAM" 🤎, and we'd booked ahead through Naver ❗️

Before: one month of shaggy straight hair

Here's the before shot, about a month after his last down perm and cut 😇 Even after just a month his hair had grown noticeably shaggy, with messy bits sticking up around the nape and sideburns.

The cut: 30 minutes from clipper thinning to the fine details

First, JEAM checked his head shape and hair condition, carefully asking how he'd like the cut to go and whether he had a preferred style ✨

He suggested that thinning out the overall shaggy length as much as possible would suit his head shape best, so that's the direction they went with 💖

First, he used clippers to thin out the volume 😇

Watching him swap between tools so meticulously, he really gave off that expert-barber energy 🤎

He kept checking the mirror against the actual angle, working with so much care 🖤

Honestly, the cut alone already looked like such a transformation that I thought — do we even need the down perm haha. Is it okay for his head to look this much smaller (?)

All those big-head years feel unfair now 😭

The careful cutting kept going ✨ Rather than cutting it all at once, he really did it bit by bit, constantly checking angle and mirror — the cut alone took close to 30 minutes 🖤

As someone who's also drifted between salons, I found myself wondering why I've never met a barber like this.

Full down perm: 7 minutes for damaged hair, minimal solution on the sideburns

For the full down perm at Divers Barbershop, JEAM sectioned the hair with real precision and applied the solution only where it was needed. Given how damaged the hair gets from repeated down perms, he kept it light at just 7 minutes, and minimized solution on the sideburns where the hair condition was worst.

And right into the down perm we went 💝

He said at other salons the down perm solution usually gets slathered on in big clumps around the sideburns and back of the head, and he'd assumed that was just how it was done. But JEAM sectioned the hair with real precision and applied solution exactly where the perm needed to go 🖤

He kindly explained that since repeated down perms had damaged the hair, he'd keep it as light as possible — just 7 minutes — and minimize solution on the sideburns, where the condition was worst ✨

How could you not fall for that level of explanation and care...💝

After shampooing and drying, he even did one last touch-up cut ✨

Watching all this, I genuinely felt how thoughtful, careful, and skilled it was 👏 (I'll admit I imagined switching genders for 0.3 seconds just to get a service from JEAM myself, haha)
