Private-room Korean set meal in Ansan: Yeongwolae Gondre

Lately, I’ve been craving healthy food that sits comfortably in my stomach! Spicy, indulgent meals out are great too, but sometimes you really miss a neat Korean table spread, you know? :) Looking for a clean meal that wouldn’t leave me feeling heavy afterward, I visited Yeongwolae Gondre Ansan Branch.

Yeongwolae Gondre Ansan Branch is on the second floor of the Gojan Praum City building, so it was super convenient to reach by public transit too. It’s within walking distance of Jungang Station on Subway Line 4, and there are quite a few bus stops nearby!

If you’re driving, you can park free for two hours on B1 of the building’s underground parking garage, so you can enjoy your meal without worrying :) Just be sure to have the restaurant register your exit before you leave!

It’s open every day from 10:40 AM until 8:40 PM, making it easy to drop in leisurely for either lunch or dinner. Better yet, there’s no break time, so you can visit whenever without watching the clock 👍 I really like places without a break time -

A private-room restaurant atmosphere

As soon as I stepped inside, the clean, calm interior caught my eye first. Warm wood tones and a sleek modern feel came together beautifully, so the atmosphere was really lovely :)

Especially for anyone looking for a private-room Korean restaurant in Ansan, this is an ideal spot - the spaces are separated for privacy, making it a great place to have a cozy meal and conversation with beloved family or friends :)

What comes with the Murungdowon Set

Once seated, I looked through the menu and fell into the happy dilemma of choosing among so many neatly prepared Korean dishes 🎶 I also loved that most set meals can be ordered for one person, so everyone can pick according to their own taste :)

We chose the restaurant’s Murungdowon Set! It comes with spicy stir-fried pork, grilled mackerel, and gangdoenjang (thick soybean paste stew), all nicely balanced together. At ₩40,000 for two, the price felt good compared with other set meals too!

There are side dishes and alcoholic drinks too, and they also take takeout, delivery, and group orders! It was right in the middle of lunch when I visited, so maybe that’s why I saw lots of delivery orders coming in -

The self-service bar and unlimited gondre rice

While waiting for our food, I used the self-service bar set up on one side of the restaurant! Fresh ssam vegetables (leaves for wrapping rice and meat) and assorted palate-whetting side dishes were laid out so neatly, and being able to take whatever I wanted really made the experience better :)

And even the rice comes with unlimited refills! There wasn’t just white rice; there was gondre rice too, so we could really eat our fill :)

Gangdoenjang, spicy pork, and grilled mackerel

Finally, the table was filled with food! It was a beautifully arranged spread of appetizing side dishes and mains :)

I started with a bite of the rich, savory gangdoenjang, which clung so nicely to the palate! Mix a few spoonfuls into fragrant gondre rice and it becomes such an appetite-opening treat ✨

The spicy stir-fried pork, deeply infused with its sweet-and-spicy seasoning, was clean-tasting with no unpleasant porky smell, so I kept reaching for it! I’m not great with spice, so it was a little hot for me, but the addictive sauce had me diligently eating it with rice 🤤

It was especially a perfect match with the ssam vegetables from the self-service bar 👏

Then there was the grilled mackerel, crisp outside and moist inside~ Why can’t I get that perfectly golden look when I grill it at home? 😂

It had just the right amount of oil for wonderful richness, and the flesh was thick and substantial. Put a big piece over gondre rice and it’s a total rice thief 👏

They even had sikhye (sweet rice punch) and maesil tea (plum tea) ready for a sweet finish!
