Shrimp fried rice and jjajangmyeon at a Haeundae Chinese restaurant

In short

Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch is a Chinese restaurant in Haeundae, Busan, set in a standalone building on Dalmaji-gil hill. The writer ordered a large sujeong-ogyeop jjajangmyeon (jjajangmyeon with soft-boiled egg and pork belly), shrimp fried rice, and black vinegar pork loin sweet and sour pork, and found the large portion generous and the black vinegar sauce's sweet-and-sour flavor memorable. With Jorge Nelson bubble lamps, European-style furniture, free corkage for up to three bottles, and group seating for up to 30, it suits both casual meals and gatherings.

Whenever I'm craving Chinese food in Haeundae, there's a place I go straight to — Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch, known as one of the best Chinese restaurants in Haeundae. I went to check it out myself and wanted to leave a detailed review.

How to get there

If you head uphill toward Dongbaek Elementary School, you'll find it standing alone in its own building. It's not right in the middle of a busy commercial strip but tucked on a quiet hillside, so I'd recommend turning on navigation if it's your first visit.

It's also a short drive from Haeundae Beach or Songjeong Beach, so it works well for planning a route. Worth noting in advance: it's at 200 Dalmaji-gil117beon-nagil, Haeundae-gu, Busan, 1st floor.

What's the atmosphere like?

The moment I walked in, I wondered if this was really a Chinese restaurant — the vibe was so different. Jorge Nelson bubble lamps hung throughout the space, wrapping the room in soft, warm light,

and with European-style furniture placed around, it felt less like a Chinese restaurant and more like a stylish restaurant altogether.

It's clearly a very different space from a greasy, noisy neighborhood Chinese joint, so the atmosphere worked well both for a date and for a family meal.

The window seats had great natural light, and with the green-toned sofas and wood chairs neatly arranged, photos turned out nicely no matter where you sat.

Among Chinese restaurants in Haeundae, this one definitely stands out for its interior alone.

Group seating, baby chairs, corkage

The amenities were well set up too — group dining is possible, baby chairs are available, and there are separate men's and women's restrooms, so families can visit comfortably. There's group seating for anywhere from 4 to 30 people, so it could work well as a gathering spot too. Corkage is free for up to 3 bottles, which is worth knowing if you're a wine lover.

Menu lineup

Ordering was easy through the tablet at each table, with a wide range of dishes from basic bueok jjajangmyeon to sujeong-ogyeop jjajangmyeon, woosamgyeop beef jjamppong, black vinegar pork loin sweet and sour pork, and whole-garlic yuringi. There were a lot of distinctive menu items you don't usually see at a regular Chinese restaurant, so it was hard to decide what to order. You could tell a lot of thought went into each dish.

The three dishes we ordered

That day we ordered three things: a large sujeong-ogyeop jjajangmyeon, shrimp fried rice, and black vinegar pork loin sweet and sour pork.

Large sujeong-ogyeop jjajangmyeon

First, the sujeong-ogyeop jjajangmyeon is a dish where you crack open a soft-boiled egg over thick pork belly and mix it in,

and with the smoky pork belly and savory egg combined, it felt less like a plain jjajangmyeon and more like a complete dish on its own.

Even ordered large, the portion was generous and filling, and the sauce and noodles worked well together — I enjoyed it right to the last bite.

Shrimp fried rice

The shrimp fried rice came with plump shrimp cut into bite-sized pieces, stir-fried with a nice smoky char,

and the fluffy grains of rice with a touch of egg aroma made it easy to eat without feeling heavy — it also paired well alongside the jjajangmyeon.

Black vinegar pork loin sweet and sour pork

The black vinegar pork loin sweet and sour pork apparently uses a sauce made with black vinegar imported directly from China,

and the depth and sweet-and-sour flavor were noticeably different from regular sweet and sour pork — quite memorable.

Under the crispy batter, the meat stayed juicy, so it was delicious even without the sauce,

All three dishes exceeded my expectations, so I feel confident recommending them.
