No-reservation dinner with jalapeño cream shrimp: Bueokgan Chinese

Today I'm bringing you a post about a great find in Marine City — I went to see Odyssey at Centum CGV and then went looking for a good dinner, and that's how I discovered 'Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch' haha.

Bueokgan Chinese has other branches too, but I headed to the Marine City branch where you can enjoy upscale Chinese food while looking out at the wide-open Haeundae sea!

The restaurant was really spacious and pleasant, and parking was well set up too, so I parked comfortably and walked right in. With a gorgeous ocean view stretching out beyond the windows, let me start this post on Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch, a Haeundae favorite!

Location and hours

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is located on the Marine City Beach-ro side, so it's a perfect spot to stop by if you're driving over to nearby Dongbaekseom or Haeundae Beach, or taking a seaside walk after your meal.

There's also a well-arranged commercial parking lot inside the building, so even beginner drivers can visit without worrying about parking.

Where do you park?

For parking, drive into the 'commercial only' line of the Haeundae The Sharp Adelis officetel building! I told the security office I was there for Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch, and they opened the barrier right away. The parking attendant kindly even showed me to a spot, making it really easy to park. Bueokgan Chinese offers 1.5 hours of free parking, so make sure to get your parking ticket stamped when you leave after your meal! Haha.

The 2nd-floor entrance and waiting area

Once inside the building, there's an elevator that connects straight up to Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch on the 2nd floor, so it was easy to head right up to the restaurant.

Even before stepping through the entrance, you can catch a glimpse of the wide-open Haeundae sea through the windows in the distance, and my heart was already fluttering at that point haha.

As expected of a well-known Marine City favorite, there was a clean waiting area set up right near the entrance. What I especially liked was that there was a separate sink right by the entrance where you could wash your hands before eating without having to go all the way to the restroom — you could really feel the owner's thoughtful attention to detail!

Ocean-view window seats require a reservation

Walking into the restaurant, the first thing that caught my eye were the ocean-view seats where the Haeundae sea fills your view through the floor-to-ceiling windows!

Since I visited without making a separate reservation this time, the coveted window ocean-view seats were already fully booked, so unfortunately I ended up at a regular inner table instead. T.T

Still, the inner table was spacious and the interior was upscale, so I could still enjoy a satisfying meal haha.

There were also baby chairs available, along with private room spaces, and I could see many families already enjoying group gatherings or meals out! It's perfect for coming with kids or as a family gathering spot, and I immediately understood why it's known as a favorite spot near Dongbaekseom and around Haeundae haha.

If you want to eat with a gorgeous sea view right beside you like I did, or if you need a private room, I definitely recommend making a Naver reservation before you visit!

Menu and how to order

Once seated and looking through the menu, there were so many options, from basic meal dishes to elaborate cooked dishes, that I spent a long time debating what to order haha.

Ordering was really convenient — you use the tablet kiosk on the table to browse menu photos. For reference, you can add ₩2,000 to switch to a large portion, which is perfect for anyone with a big appetite!

Now let me show you the delicious dishes we ordered after much deliberation!

Signature poached-egg five-layer pork jajangmyeon

First up was Bueokgan Chinese's signature dish, the 'poached-egg five-layer pork jajangmyeon (black bean sauce noodles)!'

As many of you probably know, jajangmyeon really comes alive when it's loaded with sautéed onions, right? Bueokgan Chinese's jajangmyeon was packed with onions and five-layer pork belly, and the look of it alone was incredible haha.

What's more, instead of a regular fried egg, there was a soft, moist poached egg placed beautifully on top! When you pop the yolk and mix it into the noodles and black bean sauce and take a bite... the nuttiness and richness spread through your mouth and it was really delicious. T.T

The noodles themselves were so glossy, moist and chewy, the texture was fantastic! The jajang sauce didn't just sit on the surface but soaked all the way in, so I could enjoy it happily right down to the last bite haha.

Beef brisket jjamppong

Next up was the 'beef brisket jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup).'

I actually debated for a long time between this and the seafood jjamppong I usually enjoy, but since the menu had it marked as BEST, I decided to order the beef brisket version haha. As soon as it arrived, I was amazed at how it filled the bowl — there was really a generous amount of savory beef brisket in it!

Taking a first sip of the broth, the deep, rich flavor of the beef brisket melted right into the spicy broth for a really deep taste. T.T If you love meat, this is a must-try, highly recommended dish at Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch, a favorite Haeundae spot!

Jalapeño cream shrimp — I thought it'd be heavy, but

Last up was the 'jalapeño cream shrimp,' which many people had raved about and recommended before I even visited!

Honestly, when I first saw the word 'cream,' I hesitated to order it, worried it might be too heavy... but that turned out to be a huge misunderstanding on my part! 😅

The sauce wasn't a predictable, heavy cream at all — it was tangy and nutty, with spicy jalapeño added on top, so even as a fried dish, I could eat it all the way through without getting tired of it, staying clean and delicious.

And the batter on the shrimp was so crispy — it stayed crispy-on-the-outside, juicy-on-the-inside all the way through the meal without ever going soggy haha. The combination of the big, plump shrimp meat with the spicy-tangy sauce was absolutely perfect!

Final verdict

I had high expectations even before visiting, since it's a famous ocean-view spot overlooking the wide-open Haeundae sea, and I was really satisfied, from the upscale restaurant atmosphere to the well-prepared food. The combination of the savory signature poached-egg five-layer pork jajangmyeon, the spicy beef brisket jjamppong, and the jalapeño cream shrimp that stayed crispy to the last bite really made me understand why it's known as a Marine City favorite.
