After a trip to Songjeong Beach in Haeundae, I wanted to look at the sea and eat something good, so I headed to Songjeong Dol Jjamppong nearby. Songjeong has a beautiful beach and is great for walks, so I go there often, but this time I wanted something a little different from usual. Then I heard about a jjamppong that sizzles on a stone plate and, curious, made my way to Songjeong Dol Jjamppong.

To cut to the conclusion, it was a place where I could enjoy both the eating and the watching at the same time. 🍜 Jjamppong that comes out sizzling on a stone plate!

Why it's great to stop by before or after a walk at Songjeong Beach
When you eat near Songjeong Beach, you tend to look for a good restaurant to visit after seeing the sea. Songjeong Dol Jjamppong is close to the beach, so it was a good stop before or after a beach walk. Especially after getting hit by the sea wind, you start craving something warm and spicy, and that day that's exactly what I wanted. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ So I ended up ordering spicy level 3.

The basic side dishes of a Chinese restaurant come out: pickled radish, onion, and black bean sauce!
Jjamppong sizzling on a stone plate
As soon as the food arrived, the first thing that caught my eye was, of course, the stone plate. The sight of the jjamppong broth bubbling away on the hot stone plate was really striking. Steam rose along with the bubbling sound, and just looking at it felt spicy and warm.

Unlike jjamppong served in a regular bowl, this dish comes on a stone plate, so I was excited from the moment I ordered. Wow! Less than five minutes after ordering, the jjamppong arrives sizzling on the stone plate. Ah, that precious jjamppong broth~

Packed with seafood — bean sprouts, shrimp, mussels, and more! I ordered extra squid, and it was plump and fresh! With regular jjamppong you feel like you have to eat it as soon as it arrives, but with stone-plate jjamppong it keeps simmering on the table, so I liked that I could eat it warm right to the end. Above all, the visuals grabbed my attention from the moment it arrived, so I couldn't help taking photos. 📸

The broth and ingredients
For jjamppong, the broth is what matters most. The broth was spicy yet had a deep flavor, and since it kept simmering, the taste held up well over time. As it thickened, it got even richer. Good good.

Even while eating, hearing that sizzling sound continuously made it feel even more delicious than usual. 😊 Eating the noodles together with the ingredients gave a variety of textures, and one bowl alone was enough to fill me up. In particular, I liked that thanks to the heat of the stone plate, the broth stayed warm right to the end without cooling down. At first it was so hot I had to eat slowly, but that meant I got to focus on and really enjoy the food. The vegetables in the stone-plate jjamppong weren't cooked down soft — they still had crunch, which I liked even more.

Crispy rice hidden under the stone plate
The biggest charm of Songjeong Dol Jjamppong isn't just the delicious jjamppong itself — once you finish the noodles, there's crispy rice (nurungji) hiding underneath! Scrape it with a spoon and out comes crispy rice, so you get to enjoy a jjamppong-fried-rice moment too — I loved that.

Mapa tofu rice with a hint of mala, and mini tangsuyuk
Mapa tofu — a must at any Chinese restaurant! It had a slight mala (Sichuan spicy-numbing) flavor which made it even better. The dol jjamppong had a generous portion with a smoky char flavor that kept me reaching for more, so I ended up taking the mapa tofu rice home — and it was still delicious the next day!

The tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) was crispy on the outside and juicy inside — mini-sized, but the portion was still generous, good good! It was plenty for two people to share and get properly full!

And for dessert, a yogurt drink. What a nice touch!
