Haeundae tonkatsu restaurant for lunch with kids: Yuyu Katsu

In short

Yuyu Katsu Busan Haeundae Branch is a Japanese-style tonkatsu restaurant near Jangsan Station in Jwadong, Haeundae, Busan. I had cheese menchi katsu and a kitsune udon set with the Chaechae siblings, who especially loved the stretchy cheese and mild broth. Verdict: an easy, kid-friendly lunch spot in Haeundae.

Today I’m sharing Yuyu Katsu Busan Haeundae Branch, a Japanese-style tonkatsu restaurant I visited with the kids near Jangsan Station in Jwadong, Haeundae! We’re originally a family that loves tonkatsu, so I’d heard about it and had been meaning to go—and finally made it haha. This time I took the Chaechae siblings by myself, and feeding two kids while taking photos was a little hectic 😂ㅠㅠ but I’ll do my best to write it all up! haha

Wood-toned interior and high chairs

Entrance to Yuyu Katsu Busan Haeundae Branch

I parked at Jwadong Public Market Parking Lot and walked over! It was literally just a one-minute walk from the public lot haha. You can spot the entrance with the Yuyu Katsu sign. Chaechae’s little brother was already excited and marched up the stairs all by himself haha.

Inside, the wood-toned interior and soft lighting felt relaxing. There was also a Very Excellent hygiene-rating certificate posted near the entrance, which put me at ease. They brought out a high chair right away too, so getting the kids seated was easy.

They also say they make their soba broth in-house, simmering it with several ingredients including katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes), ginger, and cheongju rice wine haha.

Today’s order was cheese menchi katsu + the kitsune udon set!

Cheese menchi katsu with stretchy cheese

Let’s start with the cheese menchi katsu! It’s fried with a whole chunk of cheese inside the cutlet, and when I cut into it, the cheese stretched right out—it totally passed the visual test at first glance.

It was crispy outside and packed with meat and cheese inside, so each bite felt like the juices and cheese burst together. Chaechae’s big sister stretched the cheese loooong~~ and Chaechae’s little brother was happily munching away too haha.

The kitsune udon set the kids loved

The udon that came with the meal was the kitsune udon set, topped with big pieces of yubu (seasoned fried tofu) and the cutest fish cake haha. It was arranged like a face, so the kids loved it! haha

The broth was clean and not overly strong, so it felt easy to feed to the kids. Chaechae’s little brother was so excited by the fun of slurping the udon noodles that he kept eating haha. They even loved the warm cream soup served at the start enough to finish a bowl each.

Lunch alone with two kids

This time I took the Chaechae siblings by myself, and honestly, it was a little hard to look after two bowls, worry about spilled soup, and take photos at the same time ㅜㅜ Still, seeing the kids eat so well made it all feel worthwhile.

Chaechae’s little brother picked up the yubu on top of the udon first with his chopsticks and ate it. I only found out today that he likes yubu haha. Chaechae’s big sister tried a piece of cheese menchi katsu, saw the cheese stretching, and her eyes went wide. She kept saying, “Mom, look at this!” and asking me to cut it again so she could see it.

The staff were so kind and attentive to the kids the whole time, so even though I was there alone with two children, I could eat with peace of mind. Every little bit of consideration like that really felt huge.

Stretchy cheese menchi katsu and clean yubu udon—this is a tonkatsu spot that’s just right for lunch with kids in Jwadong near Jangsan Station!
