Daeheung Station raw fish restaurant with cream draft beer: Mapo Bada
In short
Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada is a course-style raw fish restaurant on the main road by Exit 3 of Daeheung Station in Mapo, Seoul. After a Friday evening wait, the Mapo Bada Signature Set arrived as one full tabletop spread of salt-grilled shrimp, assorted seafood, five kinds of seasonal sashimi and live octopus, finished with opening-special cream draft beer and a spicy fish stew with free ramen noodles. For a party of two to four, the set menu at Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada is the best value on the menu.

Today I visited a restaurant in Daeheung-dong, Mapo — and I want to recommend a great-value course-menu raw fish restaurant.
Where is Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada and when is it open?

How to walk there from Daeheung Station, and what the place looks like
Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada is close to Exit 3 of Daeheung Station! It's not tucked inside the Gyeongui Line Forest Path but right on the main road, so it's really easy to find.

I went by bus, and getting off at Yonggang Elementary School stop, it's a 30-second walk!!
There was a wait during Friday evening dinner hours. While waiting, there are chairs so you can wait comfortably.
Outside there was also a tank keeping fresh seafood.
They also have a baby chair, so it's easy and stress-free to visit with a child!!

When I first walked in I thought it might be a bit cramped... but once you go inside, it's actually really spacious.
What's on the menu and what the sets include

You can order a set menu based on party size! This set menu has insane value for money, so I'd recommend it for groups of 2 to 4 people. We ordered the Mapo Bada Signature Set!!
For à la carte, they sell things like salt-grilled shrimp, assorted sashimi, and assorted seafood! For drinks they have beer, soju, sake, and wine — and the draft beer here is cream draft beer... ❤️

They said it was free to celebrate their opening, so I had one, and it was so good I ordered another — that person was me!! The cream was genuinely so creamy, it's a draft beer you can't help but sip and sip.

What the Mapo Bada Signature Set looks like on the table
The Mapo Bada Signature Set — I was surprised at how generous the spread was!! Like a traditional Korean fine-dining restaurant, they bring out the food right on the tray, and they do the same here!

Salt-grilled shrimp and lettuce salad
Salt-grilled shrimp. Shrimp flapping around as they cook on the salt-grilled shrimp platter.

Lettuce salad. The dressing on top of the lettuce was refreshing, and I enjoyed it before the meal to help prevent a blood sugar spike.

Assorted seafood, sushi and seaweed soup
Seasonal seafood comes out as a platter! Abalone, scallop, sea cucumber, sea squirt, and more all appear. All the seafood was fresh and lively.

Sushi comes out too, and it's genuinely delicious!! The rice seasoning was perfect.
They also serve miyeokguk (seaweed soup), which was tasty too.

Abalone porridge, steamed egg, bossam kimchi and grilled fish

The abalone porridge was tasty, the steamed egg was silky, and bossam (boiled pork) came out too, with the pickled radish and kimchi being especially delicious!! Pickled radish is really my thing!! Fish was also served — good, good.
Side dishes were corn salad, fried fish cake, and gungchae (aster stem).
Live octopus also came out — it had been a while since I'd had live octopus, and it was delicious.

The five kinds of seasonal sashimi
Finally, the seasonal sashimi arrived!! Flounder, rockfish, red drum, live shrimp, and gizzard shad — five kinds of sashimi.

Ginger, pickled radish, lemon, and sprouts are served alongside, and they're delicious with soy sauce, wasabi, or vinegared gochujang.

They also give you lettuce and perilla leaves for wrapping the sashimi.
OMG... and that's not even the end... they also serve fried sweet pumpkin and fried shrimp.

Salt-grilled shrimp, cooked through at the table
The salt-grilled shrimp, cooked to perfection!! They're too hot to peel with plastic gloves, so I'd recommend letting them cool a bit first!!

I dipped them in vinegared gochujang and they were really delicious. Shrimp are in season right now, and yep... seasonal shrimp are the best!!

Free ramen noodles in the spicy fish stew finish
Once we finished eating, they brought out spicy fish stew (maeuntang). I asked for extra ramen noodles, and they said it was free!! We added two servings, and the portion was just right.
Once the maeuntang starts boiling hard, you just add the ramen noodles in and let them cook together!!
I ate the leftover bossam kimchi together with the ramen noodles, and it was JMT (really freaking delicious)... ❤️ With cheongyang chili and garlic added, it had a nice kick. Finishing with ramen noodles was the perfect ending to Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada.
The restroom was inside too, and it was clean!!

Ending with a photo of the creamy draft beer machine...! If you're looking for a great bar/restaurant near Daeheung Station, I recommend Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada!!
