Dongtan Station weekday lunch buffet restaurant: Pyeonbaek Hoegwan

I was looking for somewhere hearty to eat near Dongtan Station and ended up at Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Dongtan Branch! It's a place where you can eat hinoki steam, lettuce wraps, and shabu-shabu all in one visit. The price was reasonable and the food was fresh, so I left really satisfied.

Since I've been obsessed with lettuce wraps lately, just being able to grab as many vegetables as I wanted was already a huge plus for me ☺️

We drove and parked on basement level 3, and there was plenty of space so parking was easy.

Take the elevator up to the 1st floor, then the escalator straight to the 2nd floor restaurant! Parking is supported for up to 2 hours, so be sure to ask staff to register your parking after your meal 👍

How big is Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Dongtan Branch, the hinoki steam spot by Dongtan Station?

Walking into Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Dongtan Branch, it was much bigger than I expected. There's plenty of seating, so it seems great for groups of friends, family gatherings, or company dinners with lots of people.

We arrived right at weekday opening and ate leisurely, but about 30 minutes in, people started pouring in — this place really lives up to its reputation as a Dongtan Station favorite.

Ordering broths on the tablet: bonito and spicy mushroom

We started by picking the broth on the tablet at the table. Besides kkatsuo (bonito) and spicy mushroom, there's also soybean paste chicken, mala, and beef bone tomato, so you can choose based on your taste. We went with the safe choice — kkatsuo and spicy mushroom broths‼️

After ordering, a big hinoki steam pot came out first, and it was nice not having to time it myself. While it cooked, we headed straight for the self-serve bar!

We loaded up on vegetables and side dishes to eat with our lettuce wraps.

I've been so into lettuce wraps lately that just picking out vegetables was already exciting haha

There's also a variety of other sides, like tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles)!

Once you've scooped as much as you want from the self-serve bar and come back to your seat, staff come by right on time to open the lid on the hinoki steam pot, so you don't have to worry about the timing yourself!

When we opened the lid on the hinoki steam pot at Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Dongtan Branch, it was packed with meat, bean sprouts, shrimp, sweet pumpkin, and more.

The fat had rendered out completely, so the meat was delicious on its own, but eating it as a lettuce wrap was still the best.

Wrap vegetables and meat in the rice paper, roll it up, and dip it in sauce — so good 🫠 There were sauces set out at every table, which made things easy.

With the special soy sauce, peanut sauce, and chili sauce, I kept switching it up, so it never got boring.

The hinoki steam portion itself was pretty large, and with all the vegetables on top, I started feeling full faster than expected. But it was so good I kept eating anyway 🤤

Already full, but the shabu-shabu still had to happen

Once we'd eaten a good amount of the hinoki steam, we asked staff for the broth. We asked when about 1/3 of the hinoki steam was left, and set the remaining meat aside in a bowl!

Now it was shabu-shabu time — the problem being we were already way too full 😅

Still, we had to taste it, so we added vegetables and cooked them — the kkatsuo broth was delicious.

The spicy mushroom broth wasn't actually spicy, just slightly tangy-hot, so even I — who can't handle spice — could eat it just fine.

The shabu-shabu meat is unlimited too, so it seems great for anyone looking for all-you-can-eat near Dongtan Station 💙 We'd eaten so much hinoki steam that we ended up skipping the meat and just having a bit of the vegetables.

Worth coming back to Pyeonbaek Hoegwan with friends?

It was nice being able to eat more cheaply on a weekday than at dinner or on the weekend, and the vegetables were fresh with plenty of side dish variety.

The restaurant is also spacious, so it looks great for group visits — anyone looking for a shabu-shabu spot near Dongtan Station should give it a try 👍 I was so full this time that I didn't get to properly enjoy the shabu-shabu and porridge, so I'm planning to go back.
