Hwaseong pho restaurant for brisket pho: Mibundang
In short
Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch is a Vietnamese pho restaurant near Dongtan Station in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. I ordered brisket pho with hoisin sauce and potato-wrapped shrimp, with free noodle and bean-sprout refills available when each person orders a menu item. A satisfying, quiet solo meal.

The warm wood-toned entrance of Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch

The entrance already feels different. A large wooden sign reading “Vietnamese pho” hangs on the wood-paneled wall, with a framed Chinese-character logo for 未粉堂 (Mibundang) beside it. The hours and store-use notices are posted by the door, making them easy to check before going in.
Pho and side dishes at Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch

The menu had pho with several meat combinations: beef brisket pho (₩10,000), brisket pho (₩11,500), beef brisket and brisket pho (₩12,500), beef brisket, brisket and tendon pho (₩14,000), and tendon pho (₩13,000). Sides include sweet potato cha gio (fried spring rolls), scallop cha gio (₩3,000 each), potato-wrapped shrimp (₩3,500), wedding shumai (₩3,000), buffalo wings (₩3,500), and a five-item assorted fried platter (₩8,600). Saigon Beer, Hanoi Beer, cola, and cider are available too. Even when eating alone, it is easy to add a side and make it a filling meal.
A kiosk and waiting system that make solo dining easy

Once you have looked over the menu, order and pay at the yellow kiosk right beside it. Being able to order comfortably without speaking face-to-face with staff is the best setup for solo diners.

If there is a wait, take a number ticket and you will be seated in order. You can simply line up and wait without feeling self-conscious.
A quiet atmosphere with counter seating and an open kitchen
Inside, the restaurant is cozy in warm wood tones, with counter seating wrapping around the open kitchen. A large floor-to-ceiling window right by the entrance keeps the interior from feeling too dark.

A wall clock, fire hydrant, and Wi-Fi sign are neatly arranged, and the cooking area is an open kitchen. I could watch the broth bubbling away; seeing several huge stainless-steel pots boiling nonstop made it clear that they take their broth seriously.
Each counter spot has three sauces—hoisin, hot sauce, and chili sauce—on a wooden tray. A wooden stand engraved with the playful line, “Please pour only as much sauce as you will eat,” also caught my eye. Even the stools are embossed with the Mibundang name, showing the care put into every little detail.
There was also a notice asking guests to speak quietly so as not to disturb the person beside them. You could tell in advance that it would be a nice setting for a quiet meal alone.
Receipt-review drink event

Next to the kiosk, I spotted an event offering a free canned drink for leaving a receipt review, so I gave it a try. A cola was just right for refreshing my palate before the steaming-hot pho.
Brisket pho with hoisin sauce

The brisket pho I ordered came with a generous pile of brisket alone over a rich broth. Scallions and chili peppers on the clear, deep broth made it fragrant, while pickled onions, Cheongyang chili peppers, and danmuji (yellow pickled radish) came as accompaniments.

Dipping the noodles in hoisin sauce is this place’s signature style. The sweet sauce let the noodles go down so easily, without any heaviness.

Plus, when each person orders one menu item, noodles and bean sprouts can be added for free during the meal, so I could eat until full without worrying that the portion would not be enough.
Crispy potato-wrapped shrimp on the side

The potato-wrapped shrimp I ordered as a side is made by wrapping plump shrimp in thinly shredded potato and frying it. It was crispy outside and springy inside, and dipped in sweet-spicy chili sauce, it was perfect both as a drinking snack and as a side with pho.
Thoughtful touches that continued after the meal

After finishing my meal, Mibundang’s thoughtful touches stood out everywhere. There were mask hooks and hair ties on the counter, and parasols were set out for guests waiting when the sun is strong. They also offer stamp coupons for return visits and candies as a little palate cleanser.
A filling solo meal by Dongtan Station
From kiosk ordering and individual counter seats to free noodle and bean-sprout refills, everything is well set up for solo dining. One bowl of pho with rich brisket broth and an order of crispy potato-wrapped shrimp makes for a thoroughly satisfying meal, even alone.
