Hi, this is Matdolphin! I was craving gopchang (beef intestines) one day and searched everywhere for good restaurants near Magongnaru Station, which is how I found Hwang Gop Magoknaru Branch — a place famous for its beef intestines.

I'm pretty serious about gopchang normally, so I went in with high expectations, and honestly this might be the best gopchang of my life. From the fresh yukhoe starter to the mixed platter packed with rich, fatty goodness, it hit my taste buds perfectly. Here's my honest review!
Where is Hwang Gop Magoknaru Branch, and is there parking?
Hwang Gop Magoknaru Branch is easy to find if you walk a short way from Magongnaru Station into the main commercial area. There's free parking in the building for up to 2 hours, which made driving there convenient. The area around Magongnaru Station is full of buildings and easy to get lost in, but Hwang Gop had really good accessibility.

I visited on a weekday evening, and the area around the restaurant was already packed with office workers from Magok. It's clearly a hot spot for work dinners or after-hours meetups near Magongnaru Station.
Inside Hwang Gop Magoknaru Branch and its outdoor terrace

The interior of Hwang Gop Magoknaru Branch is clean but still has that distinctive pocha (street-tent bar) vibe, perfect for a drink or two. There's also a romantic outdoor terrace, and I thought grilling gopchang out there on a cool evening like this would feel really nice.

The basic side dishes were scallion kimchi and pickled onions — both perfect matches for beef intestines, neatly set out. These tangy, sweet, and slightly spicy sides were more than enough to cut through the richness of the gopchang.

Free yukhoe (beef tartare) before the grilling starts
But that's not all — Hwang Gop had its own special cheat code. Fresh yukhoe (beef tartare) came as a complimentary side! At most other gopchang restaurants, this is usually an extra you have to pay for separately, so getting it for free was a nice surprise.
While the gopchang was sizzling golden on the grill, I got to enjoy bites of the soft, chewy yukhoe first, which woke up my appetite and made the wait fly by, haha.

What's in the 46,000-won Hwang Gop mixed platter of 5 cuts?
I ordered the Hwang Gop mixed platter, which lets you try five cuts at once: gopchang, daechang, makchang, heart, and pork belly brisket. At ₩46,000, it's such solid value for such a generous, hearty spread — the second I saw the grill piled high, I couldn't help but let out a 'wow'!

As it grilled, the savory aroma filled the air with zero gamey smell, keeping things completely clean — I couldn't stop salivating the whole time it cooked.

First I tried the gopchang, packed full of fat that burst with savory flavor the more I chewed,

then the daechang, which melted in my mouth, and the makchang, which had a nice chewy texture,

then I alternated between the heart and the pork belly brisket, keeping my hands and mouth constantly busy! Especially good was piling on the chives, kimchi, potato, and onion that had soaked up the gopchang fat and turned golden on the grill — I honestly couldn't stop eating.

Finishing the meal with egg fried rice
We polished off the whole gopchang platter in no time, then used the remaining savory fat to fry up a satisfying egg fried rice!

Every single grain of rice was soaked in the deep, savory flavor of the gopchang fat, making it a fully satisfying finish right down to the last bite.
Verdict: who should book Hwang Gop Magoknaru Branch?
What I liked most about Hwang Gop Magoknaru Branch was the complimentary yukhoe, the prep with zero gamey smell, and the mixed platter with five different cuts.
- Fresh yukhoe service: soft beef tartare provided free while you wait for the gopchang
- Fat-packed cuts and clean prep: zero gamey smell, real beef intestine flavor that gets more savory the more you chew
- Generous mixed platter: gopchang, daechang, makchang, heart, and pork belly brisket, five cuts at a reasonable price
