Family Korean BBQ with kids in Wolseong-dong, Daegu: Cheongujeong Beef
In short
Cheongujeong Beef Sinwolseong Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Wolseong-dong, Dalseo-gu, Daegu, specialising in fresh beef short rib and skirt steak. On a visit with two young children, the writer ordered 300g each of LA-cut garlic-heavy raw short rib, fresh skirt steak and LA-cut flower short rib, then finished with a spicy soybean paste stew, and found the baby chairs and the restaurant's own parking lot made eating out with kids easy. Even the 31-month-old daughter, who eats only tender cuts, cleared a full bowl of rice at Cheongujeong Beef.

Hi, this is Kim Sun-ri (bowing). Since we have two young kids, we're always thinking about whether we can eat out comfortably with them. This time we visited a place where dining with kids felt easy, and best of all, the meat itself was really satisfying. Let me introduce a solid family-dinner spot — "Cheongujeong Beef Sinwolseong Branch, a great restaurant in Wolseong-dong."

Where is Cheongujeong Beef Sinwolseong Branch, and when is it open?
Cheongujeong Beef Sinwolseong Branch is located at 51 Joam-ro, 1st floor, Unit 104, Dalseo-gu, Daegu, South Korea. It's closed every Monday, open 17:00-23:00 Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday, and 17:00-24:00 on Friday and Saturday.

There's parking for about 11-12 cars, and when you're leaving after your meal, just tell the staff your license plate number and they'll register it for you.

Best seats for a baby chair, and the dining room at Cheongujeong Beef
Cheongujeong Beef Sinwolseong Branch has a mix of round and square tables with generous spacing between them. We sat at a square table by the wall so we could tuck the baby chair against it.
The restaurant's windows were open that day, so it felt open and airy rather than closed in. On a cool day, I imagine the meal would be even more pleasant.

There's also group seating for 10 or more, so it would work well for gatherings or company dinners.
You start with basic side dishes, and additional ones are self-serve. Eating gungchae (aster stem) and garlic scapes with the meat added a nice crunch and cut through the richness — they went really well together.

Menu prices and beef grade at Cheongujeong Beef Sinwolseong Branch
Per 100g, fresh skirt steak is ₩11,000, LA-cut flower short rib is ₩9,900, and LA-cut garlic-heavy short rib is ₩9,900. The prices felt reasonable and not burdensome, but I did wonder whether that meant a lower beef grade.

Turns out Cheongujeong Beef only selects US Black Angus Prime and Top Choice grades. Apparently the higher the grade, the richer the marbling, which means better juiciness and flavor. No wonder the meat tasted so good... 🤭

Side dishes, heotgae (hovenia) tea and tablet ordering
Seasoned bean sprouts / dressed lettuce salad / gungchae / garlic scapes / water kimchi, plus vegetables and sauces come as basic side dishes. If you need more, just help yourself at the self-serve corner ➿

Uniquely, Cheongujeong serves heotgae (Hovenia dulcis) tea instead of regular filtered water. It was nice to sip savory heotgae tea instead of water while eating meat — and even better if you're drinking alcohol ➿🎵

You order easily using the tablet at each table. Note that orders come in 300g or 600g portions rather than by 100g. Good to know ✨
What our family ordered
- LA-cut garlic-heavy raw short rib, 300g
- Fresh skirt steak, 300g
- LA-cut fresh flower short rib, 300g
- Soybean paste stew, 1 order
- Bowls of rice, 2
That's what we ordered. We ate a lot, didn't we? Try it — it's so good you end up ordering more.
LA-cut garlic-heavy raw short rib, 300g: the marinade even the kids ate

A staff member first sears the meat with a torch, which they say locks in the juices and preserves the flavor.

This dish is my top pick‼️ With "garlic-heavy" in the name, I thought the kid wouldn't be able to eat it, but the garlic flavor wasn't strong, so she ate it fine too. The seasoning wasn't overly sweet and coated the meat just right, and the texture was so tender I kept reaching for more.
Fresh skirt steak, 300g: my husband's top pick

My husband's top pick was the skirt steak. Tender and delicious as always, and since it's a boneless cut, there's more actual meat to eat, which he liked best. We couldn't stop there — we ordered more 🔥
LA-cut fresh flower short rib, 300g: our 31-month-old daughter's favourite

Wow~~~ the color is so gorgeous, one more photo 🐃🥩

Last up is our 31-month-old daughter's top pick. You know how kids don't like chewy meat, right? Our daughter only eats tender, tasty cuts like salchisal or flower short rib, even when it's hanwoo.

Mom, it's yummy, give me more
Haha, feeding her the meat together with the provided seaweed, she polished off a whole bowl 🍚 Oh! I only realized after finishing all the meat that the trick is to eat the plain-grilled meat first, then the seasoned meat.

Ending the meal with spicy soybean paste stew
Of course you finish with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) 🍚🍚 Cheongujeong Beef Sinwolseong Branch offers two spice levels for the stew. We ordered the spicy one, and it was the perfect way to wrap up after all that meat.
Is Cheongujeong Beef worth it with kids? Final verdict
A beef restaurant that eased the price concern and delivered on flavor
The relaxed atmosphere plus how satisfying the meat was made this a great meal. Prices aren't burdensome either, so it would work well for a family dinner, a gathering, or a company dinner. If you're looking for a beef restaurant in Wolseong-dong that's good to visit with kids, I recommend Cheongujeong Beef Sinwolseong Branch 👍🏻

Boss, I'm satisfied. We ate well, paid up, and we're heading out ( ื▿ ืʃƪ)
