Today I'm bringing you my review of Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread 🥔, a spot I stopped by during my Sokcho trip.
Whenever I go to Sokcho, I always end up buying some food or souvenir, and I wanted something different from the usual stuff, so after digging around online I found Bultan Gamja Bread (burnt potato bread)!! The name alone — burnt potato bread — got me hooked 🔥
How many Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread locations are there? Main store location and parking
There are 3 Bultan Gamja Bread locations including the main store!
- Branch 1: 1 Subokro 201beon-gil, Sokcho, Gangwon, South Korea
- Branch 2: 18 Jungangsijang-ro 6-gil, Sokcho, Gangwon, South Korea
My accommodation (Sono Calm) was about a 5-minute drive from the main store, so I decided to visit the main store.

There are signs pointing the way multiple times, so you won't get confused :)

There's a spacious parking lot right in front of the store, so you can just park there (free!!) Plenty of parking space made it easy to visit by car too. As you can see in the photo, you get a full view of Ulsanbawi Rock 🪨

Store vibe and the mousse toy experience
The storefront alone is pretty one-of-a-kind, right? Haha. The building's exterior is painted with colorful potato bread characters, giving it a really unique atmosphere. Thanks to that, I could spot the store easily from far away :)

As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by potato bread merch along with photos and signatures from various celebrities! As a well-known Sokcho bakery café, they had photos of famous celebrities.

There were quite a few seats inside too, and it had a relaxed atmosphere where you could eat while calmly enjoying the view.

There was also a corner where you could make your own mousse toy! It costs ₩10,000 💵 Seemed like a good option to try with kids or as a couple activity. It's pretty cute, so it seems worth trying at least once.

- Bultan Potato Bread (4pcs): ₩10,000
- Sokcho Jjondeugi (12pcs): ₩10,000
- Oranda: ₩10,000

They also sell coffee and drinks to go with the potato bread haha

There were also various drinks in the fridge next to it :)

The potatoes are domestic!! And the staff are purely domestic too!! Haha

On one wall of the store, there's writing about the benefits of squid ink 🦑 and potato 🥔, the main ingredients of Bultan Gamja Bread.

Can you order delivery too?
Apparently delivery ordering is available too, so if it's hard for you to visit Sokcho, ordering by delivery seems like a great option!!

I bought the potato bread (4pcs) and the Sokcho squid-flavored jjondeugi (12pcs). The store is fairly spacious so I wanted to eat there leisurely, but since I was heading home, I had no choice but to get it packed to go!

The potato breads come individually wrapped.

I opened them up once I got home, and aren't they just so cute, like they have eyes, nose and mouth? Haha

Unlike the potato bread you usually see, this one was truly pitch black like it was actually burnt, which made it even cuter.

20 seconds in the microwave: the taste of potato bread and jjondeugi
I microwaved it for about 20 seconds before eating! The crust of the potato bread was totally chewy, and inside, the potato mixed with cream cheese was sweet and absolutely delicious.

For the jjondeugi (a chewy squid-like snack), tearing off big chunks gives a texture more like tearing real squid, which was better haha. They also sell spicy chicken flavor and snow crab flavor jjondeugi, which seemed like they'd be tasty too, so I plan to try other flavors next time 🐔🦀
Good as a gift? 10% off for 3 boxes
Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread is running a 10% discount event when you buy 3 boxes. With the discount, it comes to ₩9,000 per box, which seems like a nice, affordable option for gifting!
It's great as a snack while traveling, but the box packaging is also neat, so it works well to bring home or give as a gift to people around you.
Thanks to its black, unique look, it's fun just to look at, and with soft potato inside chewy bread, it made for a perfect snack. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to pack a tasty snack as a memento of their Sokcho trip, just like I did! 🥔
