Mountain-view café near Sokcho IC: Earl Grey Flower at Cafe Neorae

I visited Cafe Neorae, a large café in Sokcho — and it turned out to be the most unforgettable healing spot on my recent trip to Sokcho, Gangwon.

When you think of Sokcho, you usually picture the wide-open East Sea and the sound of crashing waves. That's how I planned this trip too, mostly around ocean-view restaurants and beachside cafés. But after staring at the sea until I'd had my fill, I suddenly found myself craving a grand, green mountain view instead.

So I headed to Cafe Neorae, a large café in Sokcho famous for offering a full view of Ulsanbawi, the massive rock formation that's a symbol of Seoraksan. It sits in Haksapyeong Kongkkot Village and is very close to Sokcho IC on the Donghae Expressway, so it's really easy to get to. There's also a big dedicated parking lot, so you can visit without any parking stress.

Cafe Neorae is a large bakery café that occupies the 2nd and 3rd floors of the building. There's an elevator inside, so you don't have to worry about tired legs.

Cafe Neorae isn't just about the beautiful view — it's also a bakery spot where they bake a variety of bread and desserts in-house. There was a whole lineup of desserts and drinks, from the nutty Neorae Latte and roasted-bean-curd Neorae Tea to the signature Neorae Pudding.

Cafe Neorae really was a healing spot through and through — the green scenery had this way of easing eye strain and calming the mind.

You could tell the owner put a lot of care into the interior — the floors, walls, and ceilings weren't just left as bare concrete or thrown together with cheap finishes; everything was decorated beautifully.

The mountain view was gorgeous, wide open on every side with nothing blocking it. On the day I visited, the clouds were just starting to clear, so I got to take in a serene, almost mystical mountain scene.

I sat at a window-side table facing Ulsanbawi and took my time enjoying tea, pudding, and dessert. Cafe Neorae is known for the view, but honestly its desserts are just as much of a highlight.

The Neorae Pudding is made with soybean pulp, an ingredient that nods to the local character of Haksapyeong Kongkkot Village. Inside was fluffy bread, creamy pudding cream, and nutty bean-curd crunchy bits — all delicious together.

The Earl Grey Flower had a subtle floral fragrance, and even though I don't usually drink Earl Grey, this was my favorite drink in a while. The chocolate croissant tasted like something I'd want to pack 100 of and bring home. I think I'll be back just for that croissant.

I visited Cafe Neorae, a large café in Sokcho, and it was the most satisfying large café I've been to in Sokcho recently. It's very close to Sokcho IC on the Donghae Expressway, making it a perfect final stop for some healing before heading back up to Seoul. If you want to leave Sokcho with one last good memory, definitely check out Cafe Neorae — you won't regret it. It was such a healing café in Sokcho.
