The story of three friends' budget tour of Sokcho! After thoroughly exploring Sokcho Jungang Market and enjoying tasty street food, our next stop was Kkulkkuine Charcoal Pork Ribs, where we could get our fill of smoky, charcoal-grilled ribs!
This place is really close to Sokcho Intercity Bus Terminal, and it's only about a 20-minute walk to Sokcho Beach, so it's the perfect route for filling up on delicious meat and then heading out for a walk by the sea. Let me give you an honest review of our fun dinner at Kkulkkuine Charcoal Pork Ribs, known as a hot spot in Jangdong, Sokcho, and near Cheongcho Lake! 🩵

Among all the pork rib restaurants near Sokcho Beach, this one boasts the best location for travelers thanks to its proximity to both the terminal and the beach.

As soon as we stepped inside, a subtle, savory charcoal smell filled the air, really stirring up our appetite! We got seated and checked out the menu right away.

How much are the handmade pork ribs? 15,000 won per serving
Kkulkkuine Charcoal Pork Ribs' handmade pork ribs are ₩15,000 per serving; we ordered 3 servings for ₩45,000. Soju and makgeolli (rice wine) were ₩4,000 each.
Even though these are 100% handmade pork ribs, the price was so reasonable it fit perfectly with our budget tour concept for Sokcho! And what's good food with good company without a drink? We each ordered according to our own taste, from makgeolli to soju. 🥂

Side dishes and the owner's salted scallop jeotgal
Once we ordered, the basic side dishes that pair perfectly with the meat were quickly set out.

The basic side dishes included lettuce, peppers, garlic, ssamjang, corn salad, and scallop jeotgal (salted seafood). I highly recommend mixing the pickled onions and seasoned bean sprouts that came as side dishes! The tangy-sweet pickled onions combined with the nutty perilla seed flavor of the bean sprouts really elevated the flavor of the meat.
The scallop jeotgal was also apparently made by the owner herself, and the savory depth of flavor was seriously amazing! You can freely grab extra side dishes from the self-service bar.

Free steamed egg and doenjang stew with the meal
While we waited for the meat to cook over the charcoal, some complimentary dishes came out, showing off Sokcho's generous hospitality!
Soft steamed egg and hearty doenjang (soybean paste) stew were provided as complimentary service! The doenjang stew was packed generously with tofu and vegetables, making it really filling. Before the meat was even fully cooked, we were already cheering with these free side dishes! 🍻

How the charcoal-grilled handmade pork ribs taste
Finally, the main dish — the handmade pork ribs — started grilling over the charcoal!

Since it's cooked over charcoal, you need to flip the meat often so it doesn't burn! The distinctive smoky flavor of the charcoal soaked into the meat, and every single bite was incredibly rich in flavor.
Wrapping a piece of smoky meat, garlic, and the owner's scallop jeotgal on top of fresh lettuce with the perilla-seasoned onion and bean sprout mix made for a perfectly harmonious, deep and savory bite!

One free bottle for a social media post
There's an ongoing promotion where if you post a verification photo on Instagram, Facebook, blogs, or KakaoStory, you get one free bottle of soju, beer, or a drink! If you're on a budget tour like us, you definitely can't miss this sweet deal.
