There are days when you just crave tteokbokki (spicy stir-fried rice cakes)!!! Not just spicy, but chewy rice cakes with sauce clinging to every piece! With the weather getting chillier lately, I keep thinking about tteokbokki even more. Today I went to Eungkeum Tteokbokki in Yeonnam-dong.

Inside Eungkeum Tteokbokki Yeonnam Branch in Hongdae
The Eungkeum Tteokbokki Yeonnam Branch is neatly kept, and the tables are spaced well apart so you can eat comfortably. It seems like a good spot to come with coworkers too. The smell of tteokbokki naturally fills the air and just works up your appetite.

What three people ordered and the bill: 31,500 won
We ordered three things at Eungkeum Tteokbokki Yeonnam Branch. Cheongryang mayo tuna gimbap (₩7,500), the large sundae with innards (₩12,900), and Eungkeum Tteokbokki Original (₩11,100). Total: ₩31,500.
All three dishes for just ₩31,500! For this price and this amount of food, it's the best value in Yeonnam-dong.

Large sundae and innards platter, dipped in the tteokbokki sauce
We also ordered the large sundae (Korean blood sausage) with innards. The heopa (lungs, part of the sundae innards) are generously packed in, with a chewy texture that really comes through. Dip it lightly in the tteokbokki sauce and the seasoning keeps pulling you back for more.
The combination of tteokbokki and sundae innards is genuinely great! Between the spice and the chewy texture, every bite keeps you coming back. A whole plate disappears in no time.

Does cheongryang mayo tuna gimbap go with tteokbokki?
We also got a roll of cheongryang mayo tuna gimbap (seaweed rice roll)! The mayonnaise is dotted throughout, giving it a fresh taste without being greasy. The tuna is packed in generously too, making each bite substantial.
Eating this gimbap alongside the tteokbokki makes the balance completely different compared to eating tteokbokki alone. The gimbap's freshness really tames the tteokbokki's spiciness.

Fried mandu served free on the house
And here's the best part! We even got fried mandu (dumplings) as a free service. I wasn't expecting it, so I was surprised when it showed up. The owner is incredibly kind, speaks warmly, and pays attention every time a dish comes out. This kind of warm service is just wonderful :) The food tastes great, but this kindness is another charm on its own.

Tteokbokki alone is already good, but combining it with several other dishes like this makes for a truly complete meal. The price is fair, the portions are generous, and on top of that there's the owner's kind service! It seems like the best choice whether you love spicy food and want a proper meal, or you're busy with work and want to eat something quickly. This is a Yeonnam-dong tteokbokki spot I'd love to visit again!

How spicy is the Eungkeum Tteokbokki Original?
The Eungkeum Tteokbokki Original is genuinely spicy! It's a bit spicier than Shin Ramyun, and that level felt just right. The heat gives your mouth a pleasant tingling sensation at just the right intensity. Even people who love spicy food should be satisfied with this level of spice.
The rice cakes are chewy with sauce coating them thoroughly, so every piece you pick up brings out a punchy flavor. The broth is also thickened nicely, so mixing it with rice makes it truly irresistible. This was really delicious!!
