In short

Shabre Garden Ulsan Nam-gu Branch is a shabu-shabu buffet on the 2nd floor of Medical Tower Building 4, near Sinjeong Market in Nam-gu, Ulsan. On a weekday afternoon visit, the half-and-half broth came with all-you-can-eat beef brisket and beef neck, followed by hotel-style buffet stations running from sushi and gim-tae gimbap (gimbap with seaweed) to tteokbokki, ice cream, patbingsu and waffles. Tender meat and a long dessert lineup make Shabre Garden a solid pick for group meetups or a family meal out.

I went to Shabre Garden Ulsan Nam-gu Branch, a shabu-shabu buffet spot in Nam-gu, Ulsan. My husband raved about how good the shabu-shabu meat was, so meat lovers, pay attention! It's on the 2nd floor of a newly built building near Sinjeong Market. The 1st floor has 365 Daewanggorae Pharmacy.

What the dining room feels like on a weekday afternoon

Inside the restaurant — I arrived at noon on a weekday and it was already nearly full. By around 1:30pm a few seats opened up, so I snapped a photo. The tables are comfortable, so it's good with anyone you bring. Since it was a weekday, there were plenty of nearby office workers and mom groups.

You can choose your broth, and half-and-half is possible too. We went with half-and-half.

Shabu-shabu ingredients: beef brisket and beef neck in half-and-half broth

I took a quick look around this new Nam-gu spot to see what's good. First, you make the broth. The vegetables are really fresh. There's fish cake, kalguksu (noodles), sujebi (hand-torn dough soup), and seafood ready to go, so build it however you like.

You can take as much beef brisket and beef neck as you want. Both were tender, great for any age group to enjoy together. Honestly, just eating the shabu-shabu well is worth the price.

Why round rice paper beats square for shabu-shabu wraps

I also grabbed rice paper and vegetables. The square rice paper is the dry type. I tried it out of curiosity — it's convenient, but tears easily and is hard to wrap with. The round ones take more effort but give that proper summer-roll feel.

The little fish shapes in the broth were so cute. Good-looking shabu-shabu tastes good too! One sip of the warm broth and your whole body warms up. It's fall, so your appetite kicks in even though you're a bit sluggish.

Eat something delicious and get your energy back!!!

The warmth of the broth, the crunch of the vegetables, and the fun of trying different sauces — there's a reason this shabu-shabu spot is so popular in Nam-gu.

You can make porridge with the leftover broth after eating, but we were too full to try it.

Sushi and gim-tae gimbap good enough for a sushi buffet

Is this a sushi buffet? The sushi here has a small amount of rice topped with a generously sized slice of raw fish — good enough to be sold as an individual item.

The gim-tae gimbap (seaweed rice roll made with seasoned laver) is refreshing with a nice savory finish, so make sure to try it. ∨A pick from the little witch!

Yes, there is tteokbokki at the buffet

This is my number one pick — tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and other Korean snack foods. Who eats tteokbokki at a buffet? Me.

Ahh, I only had a little taste. I love that they respect people whose tastes are like mine too.

Dessert corner: ice cream, patbingsu and waffles

At Shabre Garden Ulsan Nam-gu Branch, a shabu-shabu buffet spot in Nam-gu, they have so much ice cream and patbingsu (shaved ice with red beans) it's harder to find what's missing. Wondering what to have for dessert? The reason you shouldn't fill up beforehand: there's just too much dessert.

I walked around and diligently prepared a full round of dessert. I'll move as much as I eat! But in truth, the more I moved around, the more I brought back!
