"Saturday lunch, what should I eat today?" I wanted a satisfying meal even on the weekend, so I went looking for one!

This is Boksan Haejang Nam-gu Sinjeong Branch, near Gongeop Tower in Sinjeong-dong, Ulsan! Since it only serves lunch, you have to time your visit carefully if you want the delicious haejangguk (hangover soup) or yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef rice bowl)!

After eating a hearty meal made with domestic ingredients in a clean space, I felt full of energy all afternoon.

There are about 3–4 parking spots in front of the store. If there's no spot up front, I'd recommend parking in the alley behind the building!
A clean ivory-and-wood storefront on Munsu-ro
The first thing that caught my eye when I arrived at Boksan Haejang Nam-gu Sinjeong Branch was the clean exterior blending ivory tones with wood accents. It gives off a calm yet warm overall feel, and there are even brick-style chairs outside for waiting.

Even the waiting area was decorated so neatly and stylishly that it felt more like a cozy little café than a restaurant, haha.
Inside Boksan Haejang: tables that work for solo diners
The inside of Boksan Haejang Nam-gu Sinjeong Branch has both 4-person and 2-person tables, so it's comfortable whether you're going with a group or alone. Walking in, the interior continues in a similar mood to the outside!

It's a space where the wood tones and brick textures blend naturally, and above all, it was really clean overall.
With both 4-person and 2-person tables available, it's great for visiting with a group, but you can also eat solo without feeling awkward!

So I thought this place would be great not just for people looking for a good Korean restaurant in Nam-gu, Ulsan, but also for office workers looking for a solo-dining spot, haha.
The Boksan Haejang menu and its Korean-grown ingredients

The menu at Boksan Haejang Nam-gu Sinjeong Branch includes haejangguk, haejang kalguksu (hangover noodle soup), yukhoe bibimbap, yukhoe mulhoe, and Boksan pork bulgogi. It's centered on Korean dishes, but has a variety of beef dishes that set it apart from a typical hangover soup restaurant!!

What personally impressed me the most was that they use domestic ingredients. Domestic Korean beef and domestic Korean pork, along with domestic rice, domestic red pepper powder, and even the diced radish kimchi! Knowing they use domestic ingredients gave me a lot of trust in both the taste and the care put into the food!!
The side dishes that come with every meal

The basic table setting after ordering also came out looking clean. Diced radish kimchi, radish salad, and pickled onions were prepared — good side dishes to pair with the haejangguk or yukhoe bibimbap throughout the meal.
The table also had salt and pepper, plus Sichuan pepper and perilla seeds, so you could add them according to your taste, which was a nice touch!
What we ordered for Saturday lunch and what it cost

- Boksan haejangguk: ₩11,000
- Yukhoe bibimbap: ₩12,000
- Boksan pork bulgogi (small): ₩5,000
Boksan haejangguk (Korean beef gukbap), 11,000 won

The first dish to arrive was the Boksan haejangguk, served piping hot in an earthenware pot.

At a glance, the ingredients were generous — bean sprouts, glass noodles, and radish that had soaked up the broth's flavor, which was a nice touch. Above all, the broth had no unpleasant smell or fishiness, and had a clean, slightly spicy taste that warmed you right up. And can you see the meat?
There was plenty of thick meat in it, so it wasn't just a soup you sip broth from — it was quite filling as a full meal. It would suit a day when you need to recover from drinking, but I think it would especially suit office workers who need a hearty lunch before an afternoon of work.
So if you're looking for a good haejangguk spot in Nam-gu, Ulsan, I think this is a place worth visiting at least once!
Yukhoe bibimbap, 12,000 won: before and after the sauce

And the dish I personally enjoyed even more was the yukhoe bibimbap!

First of all, the color of the yukhoe (raw beef) looked really fresh and clean. Lettuce and perilla leaves were placed on top, with an egg yolk plopped right in the center, making it quite pretty to look at.

I gave it a light mix and tasted it first — it had a subtle nutty flavor with a hint of sweetness and umami blended together, and it was delicious.
There's also a special gochujang (red pepper paste) sauce served on the side that you can add in, and even with the sauce, it wasn't overly salty or spicy — everything blended together well.
Personally, I'd recommend trying it both ways: ✔️ mix it once plain first, then ✔️ add the sauce and mix again. The taste changes quite a bit before and after adding the sauce, so it's fun to try it both ways.
I ate it happily enough to call it a real yukhoe bibimbap must-try.
Boksan pork bulgogi (small), 5,000 won: the one letdown

Lastly, the small size of Boksan pork bulgogi that we ordered together^^

It came topped generously with scallion salad, so it looked really appetizing from the moment it arrived. The meat itself had almost no spiciness, with a slightly sweet and salty sweet-and-savory style that went well with rice.
The meat was tasty on its own, but eating it with the scallion salad added a refreshing touch, making it another nice bite. However, when I ate it, the food came out slightly cooled down, which was a bit disappointing. If it had come out warmer, it would have been even more delicious!
Is Boksan Haejang worth it for lunch in Ulsan?

Overall, Boksan Haejang Nam-gu Sinjeong Branch was a place where I could enjoy delicious, hearty Korean food in a clean, atmospheric space. Above all, the use of domestic ingredients gave me confidence in the food throughout the meal, and from the generously filled haejangguk to the bibimbap topped with fresh yukhoe, I felt like I'd had a proper meal.

I had plans in the afternoon, and after having a hearty lunch, I definitely felt energized! For those looking for a good lunch spot near Gongeop Tower in Ulsan, especially if you're craving something hot and hearty, I'd recommend this place.
It would also suit office workers near Gongeop Tower looking for a place to recover after drinking, or anyone looking for a haejangguk restaurant in Nam-gu, Ulsan. Ulsan Central Hospital is nearby too, so if you're visiting the hospital and looking for a place to eat, this could be a good option as well! Since it only operates during lunch hours, check the hours before you go, and stop by on a day when you're craving a hearty meal♥️
