In short

Obongjip Samseong Branch is a bossam (boiled pork wrap) and Korean restaurant on Teheran-ro 81-gil, 347m from Exit 5 of Samseong Jungang Station in Gangnam, Seoul. At a dinner visit, the large Obongjip Bossam (₩44,000) came with jaengban makguksu (chilled buckwheat noodles, ₩9,000), kimchijeon (kimchi pancake, ₩12,000), rice balls (₩3,000) and Jipyeong makgeolli, and the gabrisal (pork shoulder blade) was tender with no gamey smell, while the self-serve side bar allowed refills right down to the little linked sausages. Bossam spread at Obongjip Samseong Branch

Why Obongjip Samseong Branch, a Samseong Station lunch-crowd favorite, for dinner?

When busy days make you crave a neatly set table full of warm food, there's nothing better than a place that combines taste with care. Not long ago, wanting a proper spread paired with a cold glass of makgeolli to wash away the day's fatigue, I went to 'Obongjip Samseong Branch' near Samseong Station.

I visited in the evening, and the interior was clean yet cozy — perfect for a relaxed meal with a drink.

Also, from 11:00 to 15:00 on weekdays there's a well-stocked lunch special lineup — fire-grilled octopus stir-fry, fire-grilled pork stir-fry, bossam set, and more — at good prices, making it a great lunch spot for nearby office workers too.

How the dishes tasted, one by one

The basic side dishes set right after ordering were already substantial, with a nice variety that made you want to keep reaching for more.

In particular, seeing the nostalgic string sausages again after so long made me so happy — they were delicious enough that I went back to the self-serve bar for a refill.

Obongjip Bossam (large), ₩44,000: gabrisal boiled pork

The bossam at Obongjip Samseong Branch really stands out — it uses gabrisal (pork shoulder blade meat), and the more you chew, the more its distinct nutty flavor and soft texture fill your mouth.

It had absolutely no gamey smell, was tender and moist, and the savory taste lingered pleasantly on the tongue.

Wrapping the meat with the crunchy mu-saengchae (radish salad) and bossam kimchi that came alongside, then topping it with a slice of pungent garlic, made for a perfect pairing that had the makgeolli going down smoothly.

Jaengban makguksu (chilled buckwheat noodles), ₩9,000

The jaengban makguksu, tossed with a sweet-and-tangy sauce, was great as a palate cleanser after the rich bossam.

Kimchijeon (kimchi pancake), ₩12,000

It was the textbook definition of crispy outside, moist inside.

The well-fermented kimchi's moderately tangy, spicy edge was in perfect balance with the seasoning, giving more satisfaction than expected as a snack alongside makgeolli.

Rice balls, ₩3,000

The rice balls, packed generously with savory seaweed flakes and pickled radish, were surprisingly filling for just ₩3,000 — great to enjoy alongside the bossam for a heartier meal.

Self-serve side bar fun and a cool dessert to finish

If you leave a receipt review at the restaurant, you can take part in a no-lose 'nostalgic lottery' event. The first prize was reportedly a don (a Korean unit of gold, about 3.75g) of gold, so drawing was surprisingly exciting.

On the way out, I had the maesil (plum) juice served as a complimentary dessert — rich and cold, it was a clean way to finish the meal.
