Hapjeong cocktail bar for date night with jamón and potatoes: Rosetta

In short

Rosetta is a painting-themed cocktail bar in an alley off Eoulmadang-ro 5-gil, near Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. The visit started at Rosetta's outdoor tables and moved into the dark, high-ceilinged room for Madame X (₩23,000) and The Scream (₩25,000), with buttered baby potatoes and jamón (₩21,000) as a side, plus a flaming orange peel and an edible perfume spritzed over the glass. Quiet and softly lit, Rosetta suits a date or a second round after a blind date.

Now that the evenings are getting a little cooler, isn't it just the best to have a drink at an outdoor table? I'd walked past this place before, thought it looked pretty, and saved it for later. It's Rosetta, a cocktail bar in Hapjeong.

I went in thinking it was just a good-vibes cocktail bar, but the concept turned out to be way more unique than I expected — the cocktails are inspired by famous paintings. I already love cocktails, but getting to drink a reinterpretation of an actual artwork felt genuinely novel.

Where is Rosetta in Hapjeong, and what are the outdoor tables like?

Rosetta is a cocktail bar at 35 Eoulmadang-ro 5-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, tucked in an alley in Hapjeong. The first thing that caught my eye when I arrived was the outdoor seating.

On a cooling evening like this, sitting back in the Hapjeong alley, people-watching with a cocktail in hand, sounded just perfect. Great for a light drink while on a date, too.

Inside Rosetta: is it good for a date or a second round after a blind date?

The interior at Rosetta is pretty dark overall, but the high ceiling keeps it from feeling cramped. Lots of people looked like they were on dates or a second round after a blind date, and it was quiet enough to actually talk.

Once inside, it was a completely different vibe. The interior is dark overall, but the high ceiling keeps it from feeling heavy or stuffy. If anything, the pretty lighting against the darkness made it feel upscale and full of atmosphere.

It's upscale without being too formal, so it seemed like a good spot for a second round after a blind date, a regular date, or even an anniversary. And honestly, everything photographed beautifully — this place is a real lighting gem. The soft lighting makes even the food and cocktail photos look moody and elegant.

Rosetta's menu and its painting-inspired cocktail list

Rosetta has a simple food menu to pair with cocktails or whiskey, and the painting-inspired cocktails have their own separate menu.

You look at the painting a cocktail was based on, then check what's mixed inside it — it was fun to appreciate some art while reading the menu after a long time. I kept thinking, 'how did they turn this painting into a cocktail?' That made the whole process of ordering and drinking feel a bit more entertaining.

I ordered buttered baby potatoes and jamón (₩21,000), Madame X (₩23,000), and The Scream (₩25,000).

Complimentary water and snacks with a small table lamp

They first bring out water and a simple snack — the crackers weren't too strong-flavored, plain and mild, which I liked. That little lamp adds to the mood too.

The Scream cocktail, ₩25,000: the flaming orange peel

The Scream is a ₩25,000 cocktail — after pouring it into the glass, staff torched an orange peel right at the table to infuse the aroma. And that wasn't even the end of it.

The moment the peel caught fire, orange scent burst out, and that scent actually lingered in the cocktail itself. When I drank it, I could pick up a subtle citrus-orange note, which was fascinating. Even though it's a strong drink, the orange aroma kept it from just tasting like straight hard liquor.

Madame X, ₩23,000: the cocktail sprayed with edible perfume

Madame X is ₩23,000 — a pre-mixed wine cocktail poured into the glass, finished off with a spray of edible perfume. Just the fact that edible perfume exists was surprising, let alone having it sprayed onto a cocktail.

The rose scent was way stronger than I expected, and the taste that followed was sweet and fragrant. If you like sweet, floral cocktails, this one will probably suit your taste perfectly.

Buttered baby potatoes and jamón, ₩21,000: Rosetta's side dish

The buttered baby potatoes and jamón (Spanish cured ham) I ordered as a side dish at Rosetta cost ₩21,000. The potatoes are pan-fried in butter — crispy outside, fluffy inside.

The nutty butter flavor soaked well into the potatoes, so they were tasty even on their own, but eating them with the jamón added its distinct salty kick and balanced the flavors nicely. Perfect as a cocktail side.

Who should visit Rosetta in Hapjeong?

Both the atmosphere and the unique cocktail concept make it a great date spot. Above all, the pretty lighting and interior make for great photos, and just sitting there put me in a good mood.

  • Anyone looking for an atmospheric date spot in Hapjeong
  • Anyone looking for a second-round spot after a blind date
  • Anyone wanting a distinctive cocktail experience for an anniversary

I'd recommend Rosetta in Hapjeong!
