Daegu Korean restaurant with mom: fire-grilled short rib, Banwoldang

In short

Banwoldang Bujasikdang is a Korean restaurant near Banwoldang Station in Jung-gu, Daegu, serving fire-grilled seokgalbi (grilled short rib) alongside cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) set meals. The writer visited with her mom and ordered two servings of the fire-grilled seokgalbi, finding the meat tender with a gentle smoky char and mild seasoning that paired well with rice. It's a comfortable spot for a meal with parents, and the restaurant also sells meal kits to recreate the dish at home.

Home-cooked-style Korean food near Banwoldang Station

Today I went out with my mom for some good Korean food near Banwoldang Station. Sometimes you crave Korean food that's clean but still feels like real home cooking, and this was exactly that kind of place.

I visited Bujasikdang. If you're looking for a good Korean restaurant near Banwoldang Station, it's worth a stop — especially since you can enjoy fire-grilled seokgalbi (grilled short rib) together with a cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) set meal, which makes for a really filling meal. My mom and I went together, and we ordered the fire-grilled Buja Seokgalbi, 2 servings!

Not long after ordering, the appetizing seokgalbi arrived. True to its name, it's fire-grilled, so there was a gentle smoky aroma that stood out right away.

For seokgalbi, the meat really has to be good, and it was — tender, with seasoning that wasn't overly sweet or sharp. One bite gave you both the smoky char and the savory depth of the sauce together, which kept me reaching for more.

It was even better eating it with my mom. She kept eating and saying it was good, and honestly, when someone who's picky about food says it's delicious, I can't help but feel proud haha. It was good with rice, and good on its own too, so you could enjoy it however you liked.

Filling with cheonggukjang too

Bujasikdang isn't just about the fire-grilled seokgalbi — you can also enjoy a cheonggukjang set meal, which makes it especially good for people who love Korean food.

Meat alone might leave you slightly wanting more, but add the cheonggukjang and rice and it becomes a truly filling meal. A spoonful of rice with the earthy cheonggukjang, then a piece of the smoky seokgalbi on top — that combination worked really well.

Overall, it leaned more toward familiar, comforting Korean flavors than anything sharp or intense, which made it a great fit for a meal with my mom.

Wait, they sell meal kits too?

Another thing that caught my eye at Bujasikdang — they also sell meal kits! Sometimes after enjoying a dish at a restaurant, you want to have it again at home, and since they sell it as a meal kit, that seemed like a really convenient option.

There are so many types of meal kits these days, but the biggest advantage is being able to recreate a dish you've already tried and liked in person. After eating here, I thought it would be nice to take one home too. It seems useful for putting together a simple meal on a busy day.

A Korean meal that was great to share with mom

This time I visited with my mom and tried the fire-grilled Buja Seokgalbi, 2 servings. With the signature smoky char of the seokgalbi, plus rice and cheonggukjang on the side, it was a filling and satisfying meal. Above all, the meat was delicious enough that I enjoyed it to the very last bite without getting tired of it.

If you're looking for a place near Banwoldang Station where you can enjoy meat and Korean food together, or somewhere comfortable to eat with your parents, Bujasikdang could be a good option.

To sum up

Bujasikdang, which I visited with my mom, was overall a comfortable and filling place for a meal. The fire-grilled Buja Seokgalbi, 2 servings, that we ordered had a clear, gentle smoky flavor, and the meat was tender enough to enjoy well with rice. The seasoning wasn't too sharp but still had a savory depth that kept me coming back for more.

Add the cheonggukjang set on top of that, and it felt like a truly filling, home-cooked-style spread. My mom enjoyed it too, which made me happy as the one who brought her along.

What I liked most was that the dish we enjoyed at the restaurant is also sold as a meal kit. Being able to enjoy the same flavor easily at home seems great for sharing with family too.

If you're looking for a clean, filling Korean meal near Banwoldang Station, or a comfortable spot to eat with your parents, I'd recommend Bujasikdang. Next time I visit, I want to try some of the other menu items I didn't get to this time :)
