Outdoor dining vibes near Seoul Botanic Park, with park-view tables

There was a wait at Jju Baksa Magok, apparently known for its proper outdoor-dining atmosphere and spicy grilled webfoot octopus.

It's close to Seoul Botanic Park so it's easy to combine a visit, and every single table gets a lush, green park view!

And in the middle of Seoul, where parking is a hassle and expensive, being able to park for free in a spacious basement lot with plenty of time was a huge plus for a stress-free visit.

Grilled jjusamgyeop 4-person set, choose 2 sides

On the big hot plate you can choose from rosé webfoot octopus, jjusamsae, jjuusam, jjusamgyeop, with the octopus spice level selectable as mild, medium, or spicy — and set menus make it even more reasonably priced. The lunch special at Jju Baksa Magok near Yangcheon Hyanggyo also looked like great value.

Ordering the grilled jjusamgyeop 4-person set lets you pick 2 sides, so I chose the cheese egg custard and crab egg custard.

Complimentary corn cheese sizzling on the hot plate

Free corn cheese comes standard

It was nice that corn cheese came out without even ordering it, at this restaurant near Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station.

It's a complimentary side dish at no extra charge, and it comes out properly sizzling on the hot plate!

Savory and sweet, it was perfect to eat alongside the jjusamgyeopsal (octopus and pork belly).

Wrap ingredients and the special mayo sauce

The savory house-made mayo sauce pairs really well with the grilled jjusamgyeop, along with tangy pickled radish, angel hair mayo, bean sprouts, and perilla leaves.

Wrapping the spicy octopus and pork belly in fragrant perilla leaves with angel hair and pickled radish is absolutely delicious.

Crab egg custard included in the set, served in a hot-pot bowl

Ordering the 4-person set lets you choose two egg custards, and I personally recommend crab and cheese.

The ultimate savory hot-pot cheese egg custard, included in the grilled jjusamgyeop set.

Loaded generously with rich cheese, it was the perfect match with the spicy octopus.

How spicy is medium?

You can choose your spice level, and I ordered medium.

Medium is a bit spicier than Shin Ramyun but not overwhelming — addictive and delicious.

The portion of pork belly and octopus was more generous than expected.

The combo of plump octopus and pork belly is always delicious no matter when you eat it.

The chewy octopus and tender pork belly combination was really great.

Bean sprouts stir-fried together with the grilled jjusamgyeop

Chatting and having a drink while the friendly staff skillfully and deliciously stir-fry everything was great~

They also stir-fry in crunchy bean sprouts, which was a nice touch — it tames the spiciness and boosts the texture!

The cheese rice cakes and the chewy regular rice cakes were also really tasty.

Finishing fried rice: both cheese and flying fish roe

It would be a shame to skip the fried rice.

You can choose between cheese and flying fish roe, or have both.

Of course I ordered it with both cheese and flying fish roe — it was absolutely delicious. The portion was generous too, making for a very filling meal.

Finishing fried rice made with both cheese and flying fish roe

The savory cheese and popping flying fish roe combo was the highlight.
