Daegu Korean restaurant near Banwoldang, no-wait 2pm visit: Banwoldang

In short

Banwoldang Bujasikdang is a Korean restaurant centered on fire-grilled dishes on Gwandeokjeong-gil in Jung-gu, Daegu. A couple who live right in front of it visit around 2pm to skip the wait, order fire-grilled menu items with cheonggukjang stew (fermented soybean stew), and often pick up the restaurant's mealkits to eat at home. It's not flashy, but it's the kind of neighborhood spot you keep coming back to whenever you just want a solid meal.

Today's story is about a neighborhood spot my husband and I go to often. A restaurant near home that you keep going back to whenever you feel like it beats a famous place you had to travel far for — and that's exactly what Banwoldang Bujasikdang is for us.

It's right in front of our place, so my husband and I stroll over when we're too lazy to cook, and on days we want to eat at home, we often just pick up a mealkit from Bujasikdang instead. So this post isn't a first-visit review — it's more from the perspective of a regular who's been back many times~

A well-known Korean restaurant near Banwoldang

Banwoldang Bujasikdang is already a well-known Korean restaurant in this area. It's close to Banwoldang Station and centers on fire-grilled dishes, so plenty of office workers come in for lunch, and locals like us keep coming back steadily too. Especially during lunch and dinner peak hours, you can tell from outside that it's often packed. Since it's right in front of my house, I pass by it a lot.

This time we deliberately visited a bit past lunch, around 2pm. That choice worked out well — going around 2pm meant we got in without waiting at all. If you want to visit a popular restaurant but hate waiting, try timing your visit for a slightly later lunch before break time. Just don't go too late, since last order is 2:45pm.

Why we keep coming back

Honestly, not every famous restaurant gets repeat visits from me. A lot of places leave you with just a 'that was good' memory and nothing more. But Banwoldang Bujasikdang's menu is exactly the kind of thing that makes you want to come back for an easy, satisfying meal.

With fire-grilled pork stir-fry, fire-grilled squid stir-fry, and Buja galbi (short ribs) on the menu, you can pick based on whether you're craving something spicy or something sweeter and saucier. These days there's also a fire-grilled pork-and-squid combo, which is great if you're torn between the two.

What I like most is that it's not just one main dish plopped on the table — it comes with basic side dishes and cheonggukjang stew, so it really feels like a full Korean meal. Rice is ordered separately, so just remember to add it when you order.

The appeal of the fire-grilled menu

When I think of Banwoldang Bujasikdang, the fire-grilled menu is the first thing that comes to mind. It has that extra smoky char on top of the sauce, which makes rice disappear naturally. I also love that everything comes out on a hot stone plate, so it stays warm while you eat.

If you like spicy sauces and Korean food you eat with rice, this will suit you well. If you're not into strong flavors, take a look at the galbi option too. The saucy dishes like pork and squid obviously go great over rice, and it's also fun to wrap a bite in lettuce.

You can grab as much lettuce for wraps as you need, self-serve. As for the stew that comes with the meal — I think this restaurant's quiet strong point is the cheonggukjang stew.

If it were just the fire-grilled dish alone, it might feel a bit one-note, but taking a spoonful of hot stew in between really brings the full Korean-table feeling to life. Spicy bite, savory broth, back to meat with rice~ that kind of rhythm makes for a pretty filling lunch. It's less about a fancy course and more about the satisfaction of a proper meal, done right.

We often pick up mealkits too

Another reason we use this place so much is the mealkits. Eating in the restaurant is convenient and delicious, of course, but some days we just want to eat at home. On those days, walking over to grab a mealkit takes one decision off the table for the meal, so we end up buying them fairly often. It's honestly one of the best perks of having a favorite restaurant right in front of our house haha.

It's not a place that's only good when you're eating in — there's also an easy option to enjoy at home, which makes it especially useful for people living nearby like me. If you've traveled far and liked the food, it might be worth checking out the mealkits before you leave too.

Why the 2pm visit worked so well

This time, the timing of the visit mattered almost as much as the food itself. I'd already seen Banwoldang Bujasikdang get crowded during peak hours a few times, so my husband and I moved a little later than usual. Arriving around 2pm meant the busy lunch rush had already passed, and it was much more relaxed. Walking straight into a popular restaurant with no wait made us both feel pretty good about our timing that day~

Since weekday lunch can get crowded with nearby office workers, if your schedule allows, try visiting right after opening or around 2pm like we did. Just be sure to check the break time and last order before you go.

Consistency over flash

One thing I've noticed from visiting Banwoldang Bujasikdang many times: it's not one of those trendy new restaurants with flashy interiors built for photos. Instead, it's closer to the kind of Korean restaurant you can casually drop into whenever you're craving a meal.

The fire-grilled dishes are solid, and it comes with side dishes and stew to round out the meal, so it's easy to think of when you're wondering what to eat today without having to make it a big occasion. Between that and being right in front of our house, it's become the kind of place we keep going back to, not just visit once.

A lot of people probably show up here for the first time after hearing it's famous, but to us, Bujasikdang isn't really a 'famous restaurant' — it's just the familiar neighborhood spot we go to for a meal. And honestly, that's the biggest strength I've found in it.

Final take on this Banwoldang restaurant

If you're near Banwoldang Station looking for a filling Korean meal or a rice-devouring dish like fire-grilled pork stir-fry, Banwoldang Bujasikdang is worth a try. My husband and I will keep going — on days we're too lazy to cook, days we crave the fire-grilled menu, and days we want to eat comfortably at home with a mealkit in hand.

Traveling far for a great restaurant is special, of course, but having a place this close that you keep coming back to is pretty great too~! If you've been looking for a Korean restaurant near Banwoldang or a good spot in Jung-gu, Daegu, hopefully this helps.
