Muan café with pick-your-own-menu ordering system: GRAY LAZY

In short

GRAY LAZY is a park-view, second-floor café in Samhyang-eup, Muan, Gwangju, known for its unusual ordering system where you grab a menu at the entrance and pick your seat first. Visiting with her mom and sister, the writer tried an americano, vanilla bean latte, peach plum ade, and fresh-fried chocolate churros, and found the café — with its three whiskies and self-serve packing station — just as good for a daytime hangout as a nighttime drink.

After having lunch in Namak with my mom and sister, I heard there was a café nearby with really great vibes, gorgeous interior, and good coffee and desserts too — so off we went to GRAY LAZY. Here's the post!

GRAY LAZY is a kid-care zone! I have a kid myself, but kids need to be looked after by their parents! Pets are welcome too, but you'll need proof of vaccination. Please follow the etiquette while you're there!

There's even a dedicated cushion at the entrance.

Inside and how to order

Menu board seen right at the entrance

The menu you see right as you walk in! Such a unique ordering system. These days most places take orders at a kiosk or the coffee counter, but here you grab a menu at the entrance and pick your seat first!

Stack of menus piled up at the entrance

Menus are stacked up like this at the entrance — just grab one and head to whichever seat you like.

Entrance area covered with customers' handwritten notes and drawings

Near the entrance there's a whole wall of handwritten notes and drawings with that analog feel! Customers wrote or drew these themselves.

Another surprise — lots of goods for sale. Most cafés sell beans or drip bags at most, but here there was tape, pencils, notepads, scissors, and more — all in that signature gray tone!

What we ordered

GRAY LAZY has a lot of signature menu items, but we went with churros! Plus an americano, a vanilla bean latte, and a peach plum ade.

Display of cold brew bottles and desserts

They also sell cold brew concentrate, vanilla bean bottles, pudding, churros, bagels, and boneless chestnut cake by the bottle — a wide variety of dessert options ready to go.

Counter where hand-drip coffee is made

They also do hand drip coffee directly.

Three whiskies displayed at the bar

They also sell three kinds of whisky — Johnnie Walker Black, Maker's Mark, Monkey Shoulder. At night, it seemed like the perfect place to enjoy a light whisky along with dessert or a non-coffee drink — the whisky fit the vibe of the place so well!

The churros seem to be a popular takeaway item too!

Park-view windows and the interior mood

The open, airy floor-to-ceiling windows are gorgeous. Since it was summer, the blinds were half down, but even the light coming through the gaps had its own atmosphere.

Great place to come study solo! I saw a lot of people with laptops and tablets. Perfect spot for a solo café visit, don't you think? And outside is a park view — in summer it almost looks like a view of the woods.

Isn't the bar gorgeous too? Seems like a great spot to come back to for a whisky at night.

GRAY LAZY's analog touch shows up in the paper and pencils at the bar! Traces left behind by customers who sat there before. It'd be fun to come back and hunt for them again.

I just can't resist paper folding...

How the peach plum ade and chocolate churros tasted

While I was busy admiring the pretty interior, our order arrived!

Cool and refreshing-looking peach plum ade! You can see it's packed with fruit pulp inside!

Oh, and they said they fry the churros to order — ours came out warm and freshly fried! Churros have to be chocolate, no question. They gave us scissors and tongs to snip pieces and dip them in the chocolate.

Add the sliced almonds on top, and with the cinnamon powder, the sweet chocolate, the nutty almonds, and all that warmth filling your mouth — it goes so perfectly with the americano!!!!!!

Leftover drinks go to the self-packing station

We didn't have much time, so we were about to just finish up quickly and leave, but we still had a good amount of drink left — luckily there's a self-packing station so we could take the leftovers with us! The takeout cups were so pretty too. Looks like they even lend out portable chargers and phone stands!

GRAY LAZY vibes! If you're looking for a great café in Namak, it's GRAY LAZY! I'm pretty picky about coffee taste, and honestly — the coffee gets my full approval! The churros too! And the atmosphere — no words needed.
