I took a day off last week and went to Starfield Suwon with my mom and dad 😊 It was such a brutally hot late August day that we escaped the heat by going to Starfield to shop and wander around slowly, and looked for a Suwon Starfield café to rest at for a bit!

A Haenggung-dong favorite lands on the 2nd floor of Starfield Suwon

I was searching around for a place to get coffee after eating, and it turned out Jeong Jiyeong Coffee, my long-time favorite in Haenggung-dong, has a branch at Starfield Suwon too — I felt this weird one-sided sense of closeness and got happily excited walking in 🤎 I was also super curious about their signature coconut coffee, which they say has sold 1.11 million cups 🥥 + the summer latte too...

What is Jeong Jiyeong Coffee Roasters like on a weekday afternoon?

I visited Jeong Jiyeong Coffee Roasters Starfield Suwon Branch on a weekday afternoon and the atmosphere was a bit calmer than on weekends, which I liked! It was great for sitting down for a short rest while shopping at Starfield, and also nice for chatting with my parents over coffee ☺️ Jeong Jiyeong Coffee sells everything from beans to goods, so it was fun browsing the store while waiting for our drinks.

From drip bags to hoodies: the goods shelf

This is the café I used to call 'Jiyeong-eonni' after visiting more than once at different branches in Haenggung-dong (though actually, Mr. Jeong Jiyeong is a man 🥹). Inside the store there were drip bags, a Suwon-i doll (a frog), hoodies, hats — such a wide range of goods that I was surprised all over again by the scale of Jeong Jiyeong Coffee! It seemed like it would make great gifts for foreign friends visiting Korea — the coffee is also strong and delicious with its own distinct vibe, so as someone who personally loved this café, I really wanted to introduce it to my parents too.

The dessert lineup, and one letdown

Jeong Jiyeong Coffee's Suwon Starfield branch also had a wide variety of desserts ready 🍰 baked snacks, slice cakes, cookies! That day they had fig cake, Basque cheesecake, melon cake, and even melon sando. Seriously, why are the cakes so pretty... The prices were a bit on the high side so it was a shame I couldn't try them all. If they sold whole cakes, those would make great gifts too.

Is the decaf americano still rich?

What we ordered was an iced latte and decaf/original americano ☕️ served in their signature egg carton — always consistent, that Jiyeong-eonni, I mean... Jeong Jiyeong Coffee, true to form as Jeong Jiyeong Coffee, had rich and flavorful coffee 🤎 I prefer strong coffee over anything too weak or watery, so I was satisfied. Since it was afternoon I ordered decaf, and since their base flavor is already rich, even the decaf was really, really delicious — great for people sensitive to caffeine to still enjoy good coffee.

Honestly I was full and only meant to order a drink, but I got seduced by the visuals and ended up ordering the melon cake too 🍈 The cream was less sweet than I expected, which I liked — you could taste melon's distinct sweet, subtle flavor, and it especially paired well with the latte 😋 Having coffee and dessert in a cool space really soothed my tired mind in the middle of shopping...

Jeong Jiyeong Coffee at Suwon Starfield is such a mood-lifting café, carrying a slight hint of that Haenggung-dong feeling along with delicious coffee ㅠㅠ I was satisfied 🤍 Most of all, since I visited with my parents, I loved being able to sit comfortably and chat over coffee ❕❕
