I heard there was a place in Hongdae famous for its extra-long tail sushi, so I went to check it out. It's called Yu Iksang Sushi — the restaurant is run under the owner's own name, which makes it feel even more trustworthy as a Hongdae sushi spot 😊

I made a reservation before visiting, and the owner was thoughtful enough to have everything pre-set for easy eating! The location isn't the best spot in Hongdae, but once evening came, people were streaming in and the place got busy.

"Today too, let's eat raw like sushi" — funny but a nice line, haha. From the store atmosphere to my honest review of the Couple A Plus set I ordered, let me show you everything in detail.
What's the atmosphere like at Yu Iksang Sushi?

From the entrance itself, I could feel how much love the owner put into this place. There isn't a single part of the interior that doesn't show the owner's personal touch.

There's even a coat hanger set up. I think the owner might be a Son Heung-min fan.

To create the vibe of a Japanese sushi restaurant, anime posters decorate the walls. It's not an atmosphere you often see in Korea, so I was glad I came 👍

The place isn't very big, but I actually found that made it easier to talk and eat comfortably.

There are solo seats as well as facing seats that seem good for eating together with someone.

Before coming here, I searched for good sushi restaurants in Hongdae, and this place turned out to be especially famous for its extra-long tail sushi??

The Slam Dunk poster also adds another layer to the sushi restaurant vibe.
Menu & honest review of the Couple A Plus set

You can check the menu right at your table, and it runs on a pay-in-advance system.

Recommended menu items come up first. Since this seems to be a popular date spot for couples, there are a lot of menu options designed for two people.

Here's what I ordered today: the Couple A Plus set. First, I was surprised by how huge the portion was. There's a reason it's known for being great value for the price. Second, I was surprised by how it looked — having so many varied pieces arranged together in one set made it look really appetizing.

They also gave us a Welch's soda each as a complimentary extra 😍

Here's the description of what I ordered. From the long-tail sushi to sushi with all kinds of other ingredients, I could already hear my mouth getting excited.

Long-tail sushi — just how long is the tail?
For anyone curious just how long the tail actually gets, I took a photo. Honestly, in my whole life, Yu Iksang Sushi is the first place I've seen sushi with a tail this long.

There's no wasabi inside the sushi itself, so you mix soy sauce and wasabi together using a brush-shaped tool and apply it yourself.

They also gave us fried eggplant as a complimentary extra — good thing I skipped lunch, because if I'd eaten lunch beforehand, my stomach might not have made it home safely.

For dessert at the end, they even gave us Chupa Chups as a service — I left feeling really happy about the meal ~~ 😙
Why I'd recommend it as a Hongdae sushi restaurant
I visited Yu Iksang Sushi, a Hongdae sushi restaurant that carries the owner's own name. Putting your own name on a restaurant usually means you're confident in the taste, right? After going myself... it really did turn out to be a great sushi restaurant in Hongdae 💯💯
It's a good place to eat alone, good to eat as a couple, and good to eat as a group of four~~ If you want to eat generously, I'd recommend the Couple A Plus set.
