Gyeongju pizza restaurant with a hanok garden: Midam Kitchen

In short

Midam Kitchen is a Western-style restaurant in Gyeongju’s Hwangridan-gil, where I had arugula tomato pizza and basil oil pasta for dinner. The hanok exterior, small garden, and garden-facing dining room stood out, while the two dishes made a light, well-matched meal.

Can you dine in a hanok setting in Hwangridan-gil?

While exploring Hwangridan-gil during my trip to Gyeongju, I went to Midam Kitchen (미담키친) for dinner. Its tiled-roof hanok and small garden were the first things I noticed. Pine trees, stones, and earthenware jars were neatly arranged, so I took a lap around the garden before eating.

Are there seats for dates or family meals?

Inside, it had a clean restaurant atmosphere that differed from the exterior. The large windows looked out onto the garden, so the room did not feel enclosed, and there was a variety of tables and seating.

There were spots for an intimate meal for two as well as tables for larger groups. It looked suitable for a date or a meal with friends or family.

High chairs were available, and there were disposable aprons around the restaurant. I comfortably used one because I was concerned about food splashing onto my clothes. Seeing these preparations, I thought it would be convenient to visit with a child as well.

Which pizza and pasta did we order?

We ordered the arugula tomato pizza, basil oil pasta, and green grape ade. I also wanted coffee, but I had already had quite a lot, so I did not order any more. I mostly drank water, and I was a little disappointed not to have coffee with the meal.

Beyond pizza and pasta, the menu also offered pork cutlets and drinks. I thought it would be easy for people dining together to choose according to their tastes.

How were the basil oil pasta and arugula tomato pizza?

The basil oil pasta arrived first. It included shrimp, potato, zucchini, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes. The basil aroma came through subtly, and although it was an oil-based pasta, it tasted clean.

The arugula tomato pizza had plenty of arugula and tomatoes on a golden-baked crust. The richness of the cheese was balanced by the fragrant arugula and fresh tomatoes, so it felt lighter than I expected.

Having pasta with a slice of pizza, I found the two dishes went well together. I also had a sip of the green grape ade; it was cool and sweet, refreshing my palate during the meal.
