Dangsan bossam restaurant with refillable bean sprouts: Cheongun

In short

Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch is a bossam (boiled pork with wraps) and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) restaurant a 2-5 minute walk from Exit 13 of Dangsan Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Fresh off a dawn flight, the writer and her husband ordered the small five-layer bossam with a complimentary spicy kalguksu topped with baby octopus for 40,000 won, and refilled the seasoned bean sprout side dish several times. The tender bossam with no gamey smell plus the sharp, spicy noodle broth made Cheongun Bossam a filling recovery dinner for two.

My husband and I were wandering around Dangsan like a couple of hungry hyenas haha, trying to figure out what to eat. Since he'd just come off a red-eye flight, I figured we should get something hearty to help him recover, so we headed to a bossam place — Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch!

Bossam (boiled pork wraps) really does taste best when you're starving haha. Eating the meat plus finishing off with noodle broth felt like it would properly refuel us, so in we went~

Location and hours of Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch

Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch is fairly close to Dangsan Station on Line 2 and Line 9, about a 2-5 minute walk from Exit 13, so accessibility is great! It's an easy enough distance to walk to if you're meeting up near Dangsan Station.

They're open daily from 11:00 to 22:00, with a break time from 15:00 to 16:00.

Store atmosphere and outdoor seating

Spacious interior of Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch

Once we stepped inside Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch, the interior turned out to be quite a bit bigger than I expected.

Generously spaced tables at Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch

The tables were spaced out generously, so it's great for two people eating together, but I thought it would also work fine if several people came along!

Tables suited for group gatherings

It especially seemed like a decent spot for a company dinner or a group gathering.

Outdoor seating at Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch

And there's also outdoor seating available, so sitting there when the weather's nice would set a great mood haha. Now that it's starting to cool down a bit, eating bossam while catching an autumn breeze sounds pretty romantic~

If you're looking for a spot near Dangsan Station for a group dinner or gathering, this could be a good reference.

Tablet ordering plus a review event

Each table has a tablet, so we could order comfortably. Looking at the menu, the lineup was more varied than I expected.

Menu lineup of bossam, kalguksu, and octopus dishes

There are different types of bossam, plus kalguksu and octopus dishes you can pair with it, so it seems like it'd be easy to match everyone's taste if you come with a group.

Receipt review event signage

They're also running a receipt review event — if you participate, you get a rice ball, so if you visit, go ahead and join in haha. It's nice when a place takes care of little extras like that.

What we ordered: small five-layer bossam + free spicy kalguksu for 40,000 won

After some deliberation, we ordered the small five-layer bossam + free spicy kalguksu with octopus topping (40,000 won).

I'd looked up reviews beforehand, and the spicy kalguksu really looked delicious in the photos. So I figured we shouldn't just stick to bossam — we had to get the noodles too. A composition that looked perfect for two!

Best side dish was the seasoned bean sprouts, refills included

After a short wait, they set up the side dishes first. Kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts, and other dishes that go well with bossam came out, and I got completely hooked on the bean sprouts haha.

The bean sprouts were so good I kept picking at them. In the end I refilled them multiple times lol.

How spicy the kalguksu was, and how much octopus you get

And then the long-awaited spicy kalguksu made its appearance! Wow, can you see how rich that broth looks..? Drool-worthy..ㅠㅠ

A bowl of rich, spicy kalguksu

It looked delicious in photos, but seeing it in person, the broth color alone was on point. One bite in and the spicy, rich flavor hit right away.

Spicy kalguksu topped with octopus

Personally, I'd say the spice level was just a touch spicier than Shin Ramyun. It's not unbearably hot, but if you're sensitive to spice, be a little careful haha.

There's also octopus mixed in, and the plump pieces were way more generous than expected. The octopus was nice and chewy, and it went perfectly with the broth..!

Taking a sip of the noodle broth between bites of bossam cut right through any greasiness — the combo is great~! So if you're looking for good kalguksu near Dangsan Station, I think you'll love this pairing.

Five-layer bossam paired with napa cabbage and dried radish strips

And finally, the five-layer bossam arrived🐷 The moment I saw that glossy, shiny presentation, my mouth started watering haha.

I want to eat it again just writing about it now... Bossam really has to be wrapped in young napa cabbage...!!!

I put a piece of bossam on the napa cabbage, topped it with dried radish strips, and took a bite... Need I say more? It was just perfect...

A bite-sized wrap of five-layer bossam

The meat was so tender with absolutely no gamey smell, so it was genuinely delicious. It had that savory flavor unique to five-layer pork belly while still being tender enough to chew, so I kept eating it without any hesitation.

The crisp texture of the napa cabbage, the tender bossam, and the dried radish strips together — that combination is just complete. I find this classic combo the tastiest way to eat bossam haha.

Would this work for a Dangsan dinner or drinks with friends?

Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch has a varied menu beyond bossam, including kalguksu and octopus dishes, so it seems like a good spot to come for a meal, and also a good spot for drinks in the evening haha.

Table set with both bossam and kalguksu

The restaurant is on the larger side, so it's good for visiting with a group, and with outdoor seating available too, it seems like it'd be nice for setting the mood as the weather cools down!

Full spread of the bossam meal for two

Especially with bossam and kalguksu together, it's plenty filling, so personally I'd recommend this as a restaurant when looking for a good dinner spot near Dangsan Station haha.

Overall review

We went to help my husband recharge after his red-eye flight and ended up leaving Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch completely full, the two of us! The pairing of tender, odor-free five-layer bossam with the rich, spicy kalguksu was really nice...!
