It had been a while since I'd seen a friend from middle school, and it turned out she'd never tried yangdaechang (grilled beef intestines) or any of the other offal parts?! I couldn't let myself enjoy something this good alone, so we agreed to meet at Chodaechang Dangsan Station, a spot near Dangsan Station that made the Blue Ribbon Survey 2024 list and has even been on live TV food shows.

Whenever I go out for grilled meat or gopchang (grilled intestines), there are three things I always check: taste, hygiene, and whether the staff grill it for you. Spoiler first — this Dangsan Station favorite checked all three boxes.
Where is Chodaechang Dangsan Station, and what are the hours?
They're open daily from 17:00 to 23:00, with last order at 22:00.

It's at 223 Dangsan-ro, 2nd floor, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, right in front of Exit 11 of Dangsan Station.

Come out of Exit 11 and turn away from the entrance, and you'll spot an Olive Young — go into the building entrance just to the left of it.

On the second floor, there's a sign that says Chodaechang.

Chodaechang was featured among the top restaurants nationwide in 2024 — one of the country's most celebrated spots for grilled beef intestines. I was already excited before I even went up.
Inside Chodaechang: a big room that fills up even on a Monday night
The interior was pretty spacious — when we walked in there were still some empty tables, but even on a Monday, it was fully packed by 7pm. If you're going without a reservation, I'd recommend arriving before 7.

I caught a glimpse of the kitchen and snapped a photo — it looked well-organized and clean at first sight, which put me at ease before eating haha.
The origin labeling was posted right at the entrance too, more peace of mind haha. Apparently the daechang is always Korean beef (hanwoo), no exceptions. The other parts had some imported and Chinese-sourced ingredients mixed in.

What comes in the 66,000-won Assorted Grill Set A
You order through the tablet at your table. Since I wanted to try a bit of everything, I got the Assorted Grill Set A — daechang, teukyang, makchang, and heart, 640g total, for ₩66,000.

The basic side dishes were lettuce salad, corn salad, gungchae, and a seasoning sauce, and the chopsticks and spoons came hygienically wrapped.
How did the seasoned daechang and makchang taste?

They light the grill for you as soon as you order. It might get a bit warm in full summer, but in fall or winter it shouldn't be uncomfortable at all.

Right after lighting the grill, the already-prepped daechang came out. I've always eaten plain, unseasoned daechang, gopchang, or makchang before, so I was curious what the seasoned version here would taste like.

They started by grilling the seasoned heart first. Wow, this was the first place I'd seen cut the heart into such big pieces. Other places give you barely any heart even when it's part of the set, but as someone who loves heart, this was an amount I could really enjoy.

And of course they cut everything into bite-sized pieces for you.

Once fully cooked, they move it right over there and start grilling the next part.

The color looked insane... haha. My hands must have been shaking from hunger.
Let's try the fully cooked heart first. Everyone knows heart is chewy, right? But because of what it is, it usually has a distinct smell — here though, the seasoning meant I could enjoy just the chewy texture without the funk! My friend, who was trying heart for the first time, loved it too (so proud).

You can see the smoke getting sucked up there. There's a hood right above the grill, so I really appreciated not having smells stick to my clothes or hair while eating.

They really grilled everything well — it all came out plump and juicy.

Last but not least, they grilled the makchang, and that was that.

Let's try the round makchang too. I usually avoid makchang unless a place is genuinely excellent, because it tends to be greasy... but the seasoning here was truly all-purpose. It cut through the greasiness completely, and the spicy-sweet flavor kept me reaching for more without getting sick of it.

It reminded me of charcoal-grilled seasoned galbi (ribs).

Everything was grilled to just the right doneness. The makchang was so good too... honestly, every part paired beautifully with the seasoning, and the chewy-yet-tender texture made for a genuinely delicious meal.
Why Chodaechang Dangsan Station works for a group offal dinner
I don't drink, so I skipped it, but every other table was clearly enjoying their food with drinks, so if you're into drinking gatherings, I'd definitely recommend meeting up here!
Pros: as a Blue Ribbon-awarded restaurant, it delivers on hygiene, taste, and service all at once.
Cons: given the nature of the food, the price is a bit on the higher side.
Who to bring: friends or couples who love daechang and beef offal, plus groups of 4–6 since the space is roomy enough for small gatherings!
They grill everything for you, no smell sticks to your clothes, and the seasoning is just that good — I think I'll be back whenever I'm craving seasoned makchang. If you're looking for a spot near Dangsan Station for seasoned meat or daechang, definitely check this place out!
