Weekend lunch special ribs & yogurt dessert near Coex: Gukbo Garden

There are weekends when you just want to treat someone to good meat in a calm, refined atmosphere. Whether it's bringing your parents along or finding the right spot for a special gathering, it's always a puzzle — and this time a good opportunity came up, so I went and checked it out. From the excellent location to the great taste of the meat and the perfect dessert corner, I was genuinely impressed. Here's my review of Gukbo Garden Samsung Main Branch (국보가든 삼성본점)!

Gukbo Garden Samsung Main Branch sits right at Exit 3 of Samseong Jungang Station, so it's really convenient to get to by public transit. Finding parking in central Seoul is usually a headache, but there's parking right in front of the restaurant, which makes it just as easy to visit by car. Between the subway access and the parking convenience, this place earns full marks as a spot to set as your meeting point.

What's the atmosphere like?

Once you step inside, the clean, tidy interior catches your eye right away. It has that upscale Korean restaurant mood, which makes it a great setting for a meal with people you care about or a more formal gathering. Staff kindly showed us to our seats and we started looking through the menu.

A lunch special that runs even on weekends

One of the big advantages here is the generously composed lunch special. It runs from 11:30am to 3pm, and the fact that it applies on weekends too, not just weekdays, is really appealing. It gives you plenty of time flexibility for a weekend gathering or a date, which I really liked.

We ordered the bakpo fresh ribs set for two (31,000 won per person) and the Gukbo seolhwa marinated ribs (29,000 won).

Side dishes and the grilling service

The side dishes laid out neatly on the table were all clean and delicious, and refills were available whenever we wanted more. The seasoning was just right and had a refined taste, making this a great spot to bring parents or older guests.

The staff grilled the meat skillfully from start to finish, even keeping an eye on our pace of eating and adjusting carefully, so we could relax, chat, and focus on the meal.

Crab miso stew and bibim naengmyeon

The lunch special includes a meal, and you can choose between cold noodles or stew with rice. To try a bit of everything, we picked stew with hot pot rice for one and bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) for the other.

The crab miso stew (꽃게된장찌개) came packed with seafood, with a broth that was refreshing and full of savory depth.

The bibim naengmyeon was as good as the cold noodles at my favorite BBQ spot, so I ate it up without even noticing, haha.

The taste of bakpo fresh ribs and seolhwa marinated ribs

The fresh ribs were grilled to a nice golden brown and were juicy and delicious. Eaten with the side dishes, the flavor was doubled, haha.

The marinated ribs we added weren't overly sweet, and the meat was so tender that it seemed like something everyone from kids to adults would love. Between the quality of the meat and the friendly staff service, it was a genuinely good mood the whole meal through.

The yogurt ice cream dessert corner

Right as we were finishing our hearty meal, one more delight was waiting. There's a dessert corner set up on one side of the restaurant. Like the trendy yoajeong-style shops these days, you can drizzle chocolate syrup over yogurt ice cream to your taste, and there are various drinks too, so we finished off the meal perfectly.

For a reasonable price in the 30,000-won range per person, we got a refined meal plus a great dessert, so it felt like it nailed both value for money and value for the heart. Looking around, a lot of people seemed to be there for family occasions and gatherings.

Visiting Gukbo Garden Samsung Main Branch as a Samseong Jungang Station restaurant and Samseong-dong BBQ spot for a date left me satisfied enough that I'd want to come back with my parents. Great meat, friendly service, and convenient parking made all three elements click, so I've bookmarked it for my next gathering too.

It's also close to Coex, so after our meal we headed over there for the rest of our date. If you're looking for a formal yet satisfying meal spot in the Samseong-dong area, this is worth a visit!
