I guess the older you get, the more you crave a good tonic meal. Looking for something to boost my energy with healthy eel, I came to Cheonsanga Jangeoga, a Nowon favorite, for lunch.

Go at opening time and parking is easy
I showed up right at the 11:30am opening and there was parking right in front of the restaurant, so I got in easily. The menu is ordered based on party size, so I went with the 3-person eel set.

What's in the eel set?
The eel set at Cheonsanga Jangeoga, a Hagae-dong favorite in Nowon, comes with eel, sushi on stone rice, oyster jeotgal (salted fermented oysters) or deodeok muchim (seasoned deodeok root), doenjang stew (fermented soybean paste stew), and nurungji sungnyung (scorched rice tea). You just pick either the oyster jeotgal or deodeok muchim when ordering.

I'd recommend Cheonsanga Jangeoga as a great place to take your parents — the staff are kind, and best of all, they grill the eel perfectly, which is exactly why I keep coming back to this Nowon favorite. The neatly plated side dishes pair perfectly with the eel too, and you can grab more from the self-serve banchan bar.

Grilling service
Honestly, eel isn't something I eat often, so grilling it myself isn't easy — but Cheonsanga Jangeoga grills it for you, which makes the meal more convenient and makes you feel pampered, which just makes the whole meal more enjoyable.

The doenjang stew that comes with the set is absolutely amazing. That savory doenjang flavor is something I could never recreate at home. It's packed with tofu and zucchini too. FYI, ordering the 2-person set gets you one stew, while the 3-person set gets you two.

If you feel like you need more during the meal, you can order extra eel, or add eel soup or cold noodles from the mains, and oyster jeotgal or doenjang stew from the side dishes.

They grill domestic Japonica freshwater eel directly over charcoal, handle all the prepping, and cut it into bite-sized pieces for you — it really doesn't get better than that.

Domestic eel grilled deliciously over domestic charcoal with domestic sun-dried salt! There's also a lunch special on weekdays for an even more reasonable, budget-friendly meal, so keep that in mind when you visit.

Eating the nicely golden-grilled eel with ginger and sauce on top is absolute heaven. This is exactly what I came to Cheonsanga Jangeoga for. 👏👏👏👏👏

Eel over sushi rice makes eel sushi
For beating summer fatigue, eel really is the best food out there. The eel set at Cheonsanga Jangeoga, a Hagae-dong favorite in Nowon, comes with sushi on stone rice and oyster jeotgal like this.

Put some wasabi on the sushi rice, top it with the well-grilled eel, and that turns into eel sushi — the clean flavor was genuinely charming.

This eel restaurant lets you enjoy it in so many ways! I love eel and I've been to a lot of places, but Cheonsanga Jangeoga Hagae Branch is by far the cleanest, and with parking available, it's great for a family meal.

Side dishes and wrap combos
This oyster jeotgal was really tasty too. As a kid I wouldn't have touched it, but tasting it now — no fishy taste at all, just clean flavor through and through! It was delicious. 🙂😋🙂

Wrapping it in soy-marinated perilla leaves was great too, and the white kimchi and green onion kimchi both paired well with the eel. Every single banchan (side dish) at Cheonsanga Jangeoga in Nowon went perfectly with the eel.

Wrapping eel and a bit of oyster jeotgal together in a lettuce wrap was also an incredible combination. To finish, I ordered the nurungji sungnyung (free) and finishing a bowl warms up your stomach and makes the whole meal feel more filling.

The weekday lunch special has a different lineup
📍 The weekday lunch special for 2 people is 59,000 won, and from 11:30am to 2:30pm you can get a much more budget-friendly meal. The lunch special set comes with 2 eels + doenjang stew + nurungji dessert — keep in mind the oyster jeotgal, deodeok muchim, and sushi on stone rice from the regular set are not included.

Location and business hours
This eel restaurant is near Jungnye Homeplus and Hagae Middle School! I'd recommend Cheonsanga Jangeoga as a clean spot for family gatherings and group meals. It's not a chaotic eel joint but a neat, tidy, and great-value lunch special eel restaurant. Once you try it, you'll want to keep coming back to this Nowon favorite.
