What comes with the black rice and sweet potato cauldron set

Menu board at Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch

This time I ordered the special set menu. Not knowing exactly when Maru would be born, I somehow felt like enjoying a slightly more indulgent meal, like a last supper of sorts. On my last visit to Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch I'd had the gondre hotpot rice, so this time I ordered the black rice and sweet potato hotpot rice.

What I ordered was the black rice and sweet potato hotpot rice special set. It comes with freshly cooked hotpot rice, 12 side dishes, grilled fish, stir-fried pork, grilled deodeok, grilled dried pollack, wraps, and doenjang jjigae — a really generous spread. I loved how the table was filled to the brim, and it reinforced that this is a great Meokgol Station restaurant for family dining. With a spread like this, it'd be more than satisfying for a special-occasion meal with parents near Meokgol Station!

Is Sanchaega good for a family meal? Inside the dining room

The interior of Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch is spacious and clean overall. Even though I visited fairly late in the evening, there were quite a lot of customers. Couples as well as families dining with their parents were there enjoying meals in a variety of combinations. It gave me the impression that Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch is a place locals return to regularly, not just somewhere people stop by in passing.

It has a quiet, comfortable atmosphere for dining, making it a solid choice among Jungnang hanjeongsik restaurants for family gatherings or meals with parents. Thanks to the spacious layout and neat atmosphere, I'd recommend it to anyone weighing options for a parents' meal near Meokgol Station.

The meal starts with savory doenjang jjigae

Savory doenjang jjigae served in a stone pot

Since the hotpot rice is cooked fresh after ordering, you have to wait around 15 minutes. In the meantime, the doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) arrived first. It came in a hot stone pot so you could keep it simmering warm at the table.

It had a noticeably more savory flavor than the doenjang jjigae you'd get at a typical restaurant. It was packed with vegetables and tofu, so the stew alone was enough to finish a bowl of rice. The care put into even the basic dishes reinforced that this is a great Meokgol Station spot for a healthy meal.

All 12 side dishes on the Sanchaega table

A table filled with 12 side dishes

Next, the 12 side dishes arrived, filling the whole table. It was genuinely so generous it looked like the table legs might buckle, and it was fun just to look at. From seasoned greens to a variety of rice-pairing dishes, everything was well rounded, so you could easily have a satisfying meal with just the doenjang jjigae and side dishes alone.

Personally, I especially loved the seasoned greens. I thought they'd taste amazing mixed into the hotpot rice once it arrived. Each side dish came out so neatly prepared that I think anyone looking for hanjeongsik in Jungnang would love this place.

Grilled flounder for each person, plus the hearty main dishes

Next came grilled fish, one per person. On my visit it was flounder, fried until crispy, which made it even more delicious. The flesh was tender and the outside crispy — perfect as a rice side. My boyfriend even deboned the fish for me, so I could eat it comfortably.

Then came the stir-fried pork, grilled deodeok, and grilled dried pollack. The special set at Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch isn't just heavy on side dishes — the proper mains are just as generous, which really upped my satisfaction. The stir-fried pork in particular was so good I wondered if this might secretly be a great spot just for that dish. You can also order extra of anything you run low on, so you can indulge to your taste. Anyone who loves a hearty spread should keep this in mind as a Jungnang hanjeongsik option.

Was the black rice and sweet potato cauldron rice worth 15 minutes?

Finally, the black rice and sweet potato hotpot rice I'd been waiting for arrived. Since I'd had the gondre hotpot rice on my last visit to Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch, this time I wanted to try something different. The rice starts cooking the moment you order, so it takes about 15 minutes, but getting to eat freshly cooked rice made the wait feel completely worth it.

The black rice, cooked light and fluffy, along with the sweet potato, looked absolutely delicious just to look at. The sweet potato wasn't overly sweet, so it paired well with the rice, and its subtle sweetness made the whole bowl feel even richer.

The freshly cooked hotpot rice alone was satisfying enough that I understood why this place has such a reputation as a Meokgol Station favorite. The owner scooped out the rice for us and poured water in to make sungnyung (scorched rice tea) for later. The portion of rice was generous too, so it made for a hearty meal.

Freshly cooked hotpot rice is delicious on its own, but I tried mixing in some seasoned greens too. Adding in whatever greens I liked and mixing them together made a healthy bibimbap. Topping it off with the stir-fried pork made it even more delicious.

Stir-fried pork is great on its own, but wrapping it with deodeok gives it a whole different appeal. Wrapping grilled dried pollack and grilled deodeok together also worked well. Being able to mix and match side dishes and mains in different combinations is one reason this makes such a good spot for a parents' meal near Meokgol Station. Older family members can enjoy the healthy greens and grilled fish, while those who love stir-fried pork can eat heartily — a spread that satisfies everyone in the family.

Savory sungnyung made by pouring water into the hotpot

No matter how full you are, if you've had hotpot rice, you have to finish with sungnyung (scorched rice tea). Maybe because the rice was made with black rice and sweet potato, the sungnyung felt even more savory than usual. Finishing a hearty meal with a warm bowl of sungnyung left my stomach feeling comfortable and made for a pleasant end to the meal.

Table after the meal with every side dish finished

In the end, I cleared every single delicious side dish — everything was so good I couldn't leave anything behind. If you want a healthy yet generous spread, I'd recommend Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch🤍 Getting to enjoy freshly cooked hotpot rice, neat side dishes, grilled fish, and stir-fried pork all in one meal made for a very satisfying visit.

If you're planning a healthy family meal out, give this Meokgol Station restaurant a try, and if you're looking for a neat, generous restaurant, remember it as a Jungnang hanjeongsik option! Above all, with its comfortable atmosphere and menu suited for dining with parents, I'd especially recommend it to anyone looking for a parents' meal near Meokgol Station!
