11am opening run at a Dunsan-dong pasta restaurant: Plate Dunsan

In short

Plate Dunsan Branch is a fresh-pasta restaurant on the second floor of the building next to Galleria Timeworld in Seo-gu, Daejeon. Arriving right at the 11am opening with my eldest son during his school break, we ordered the fire chicken drumstick rosé pasta at 15,900 won and the flame-grilled chop steak pizza at 22,900 won, and finished every bite down to the pizza crusts. Plate Dunsan makes its fresh noodles, pizza dough and sauces in house, which is exactly what makes it worth trusting.

Pasta and pizza spread at Plate Dunsan Branch

Since it's school break, we've basically been eating lunch at home every day... but my son said he wanted pasta (?) so I'm introducing the spot we went on our Dunsan-dong date! It's Plate Dunsan Branch, a fresh-noodle pasta restaurant in Daejeon. I went once before with a friend and it was so good I went right back. Plate makes its own fresh noodles, pizza dough, and even the sauces in-house, so you can eat with even more peace of mind 👍🏻

It's located on the 2nd floor of the building right next to Galleria Timeworld. The parking lot looked pretty small, so I used the street parking instead.

  • ✔️ By subway: 10-min walk from City Hall Station or Government Complex Station
  • ✔️ By bus: 1-3 min walk from the Eunhasu Intersection bus stop

Walking in, maybe because it's on the 2nd floor, the tree view through the big windows was so green and pretty, and the interior was really stylish too. We visited right at the 11am opening, and as lunchtime approached a lot of couples came in, so I'd highly recommend this as a date spot for pasta in Dunsan-dong, Daejeon.

Choosing your fresh noodles and set options

What's different from pasta places I usually go to is that you can choose your noodles! You can pick the pasta noodle type that suits your taste. Since Plate makes the fresh noodles in-house, they taste even better. You can also switch from pasta to risotto after ordering ‼️ And at this Daejeon pasta spot, adding just ₩4,000 to your pasta gets you a set with soup, bread and salad — a really good deal. I thought about getting it, but since we were heading to a café right after, we just went with the single dish!

They said skirt steak goes on discount to ₩15,000 for just one day each month, on the 10th. I should remember the 10th and go back for that steak.

My son choosing the pizza menu

My son was carefully picking out the pizza menu haha. My second kid's at school, so getting to date my first son every day during break is such a treat? He said he wanted pasta, so we came to Dunsan-dong, and every time we made eye contact he kept smiling — he really loved it ☺️

What we ordered

  • ✔️ Long-leg fire chicken rosé pasta ₩15,900
  • ✔️ Fire-grilled chapsteak pizza ₩22,900
Full view of the fire-grilled chapsteak pizza

For pizza, there were three options: beef cheddar cheese, lobster shrimp bisque rosé, and the fire-grilled chapsteak I ordered. I thought he'd go for the priciest, best-looking lobster shrimp bisque rosé pizza, but he said shrimp's fine but lobster's not really his thing. Honestly I thought the chapsteak pizza looked delicious too, so we were in agreement haha.

Fire chicken drumstick rosé pasta

My son likes spicy food, likes rosé sauce, and especially loves buldak bokkeum myeon (spicy fire chicken noodles), so he recommended this dish. It's Plate's signature menu — a whole oven-roasted chicken leg piece placed right on top of the spicy fire chicken rosé sauce. The chicken leg meat was tender, and it tasted even better eaten with the sauce!

Chapsteak pizza topped with arugula and cherry tomatoes

Flame-grilled chop steak pizza

A pizza where you can enjoy the flavor of fire-grilled steak and BBQ sauce. The arugula and cherry tomatoes cut through the richness, making this a dish that's impossible to dislike.

Dipping sauce served alongside the pizza

The sauce they gave us to dip the pizza in was a little tangy? Sweet, and paired really well with the pizza. It had this creamy, yogurt-like feel that was so good I refilled it twice. This Daejeon pasta spot's pizza really hits the spot too 🤤

Why we finished the pizza down to the crusts

Anyone out there who doesn't eat the pizza crust? Plate's fire-grilled chapsteak pizza has cheese even in the crust, so it's really delicious, and dipping it right into the spicy fire chicken rosé sauce was so good. We finished it all, down to the last bite, and came home confirming this place as a real find 👍🏻

Oh right! And while we were eating, a broadcasting crew came in to film and a reporter? asked for an interview, but my son firmly shook his head 🤣 and refused, so unfortunately we didn't get to do the interview... a story from this day. Guess our family isn't cut out for TV haha. Just how good does the food have to be for a TV crew to show up — that was our review of Plate, a Daejeon pasta spot.
