Today's post is about Gyeongju Tokyo Pie, known for its delicious pies in Hwangnidan-gil, Gyeongju! I visited through a Superchart campaign, but I would have felt cheated if I hadn't known about this place haha. I had so much fun discovering a dessert spot I hadn't known about. Finding a dessert shop that exceeded my expectations was so exciting 🫢

How to find Gyeongju Tokyo Pie one block off the Hwangnidan-gil main street

Gyeongju Tokyo Pie isn't located right on the main street of Hwangnidan-gil, so first-timers might get a little lost. When you walk through Hwangnidan-gil on your Gyeongju trip, there are countless dessert shops and restaurants, and Gyeongju Tokyo Pie is one of them — if you stop by Hwangnidan-gil, you absolutely, absolutely have to go here, seriously 🤩

The closer you get to the shop, the more the sweet, nutty smell fills your nose — it's the kind of place where the sweet scent wafting out naturally makes you stop walking, and that's exactly what Gyeongju Tokyo Pie is like 🥐

Three pie flavors at Gyeongju Tokyo Pie: apple, red bean and chocolat

Gyeongju Tokyo Pie has three kinds: the original Gyeongju Tokyo Pie with real apple inside, the Tokyo red bean pie packed with domestic red bean paste, and the Tokyo chocolat pie full of rich chocolate flavor.

Turns out Tokyo Pie runs a lot of events too. It was fun being able to eat delicious pie and join in some fun events at the same time 😄

Tasting the crisp, moist pastry at home with my child

Once I got home, my kid and I each took one out and tasted them all — the pastry itself was so delicious! It was the textbook definition of crisp outside, moist inside 👏👏 The moment you bite in, the nutty butter aroma and the combination with the soft apple or red bean filling was truly excellent 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Not overly sweet, with just the right softness, it's a flavor anyone — young or old — can enjoy without any burden!!

I had mine with an iced Americano and my kid had milk, and both coffee and milk went well with it 🥐 There's nothing better for a light sugar boost when you're feeling peckish walking around Hwangnidan-gil!

Maybe because it's a handmade pie made with such care, the texture is great, and the more you eat it, the more addictive and craveable it becomes?? Crisp outside, packed full inside — I'm calling it a certified Hwangnidan-gil dessert!
