Yangyang dog-friendly café with an electric boat: Cafe Dunchi

In short

Cafe Dunchi is a floating, dog-friendly café on the Namdaecheon River in Yangyang, Gangwon. I drove an electric boat myself for 30 minutes with a drink, then had patbingsu at the café; the parking lot was spacious, but the restroom was a shared facility outside by the parking area.

On Aug 25, 2026, I visited Cafe Dunchi (카페 둔치), a Yangyang café on the Namdaecheon River. It was a place where I could relax at the café and drive an electric boat myself. I liked that dogs could join both at the café and on the boat.

Looking out at the calm water and green scenery, it felt like a nice place to take a relaxed break.

Rather than simply staying at the café with my dog, I could also take my dog around the Namdaecheon River.

Where is Cafe Dunchi, and is parking easy?

Cafe Dunchi is at 295 Ilchul-ro in Yangyang-eup. As a floating café right on the Namdaecheon River, it offered a close view of the calm river.

Water and mountains were both visible around it, giving the place a quiet atmosphere. It was also nice for a short break during a trip.

There was a large parking lot in front of the café, so it was convenient to visit by car. However, there was no restroom inside the café, so I had to use the shared restroom by the parking lot. It would be more convenient to stop there before entering the café.

I entered the café along a short deck path. Even the approach to the building floating on the water felt different.

The first floor was a water sports area, while the second floor was the café. It was convenient to have a drink and take an electric boat in the same place.

How do you drive the electric boat, and how long is the ride?

The electric boats were operated by the Namdaecheon Water Sports Experience Center. The experience involved driving one myself around the Namdaecheon River for 30 minutes.

We took an electric boat, and there was also a hwangpo dotbae (traditional yellow-sailed boat) experience.

Before boarding, I put on a life jacket and received instructions on how to operate it. It used buttons for forward, reverse, and stop, along with a steering wheel, so it was easier than I expected. The speed was slow, which made it nice to take in the Namdaecheon scenery at an unhurried pace.

Can I take a drink and my dog on the electric boat?

I could take drinks ordered at the café straight onto the boat. There was space to set drinks down inside, so I enjoyed the scenery while having coffee. It felt like having a small private café on the water.

When I boarded, a staff member started a stopwatch set for 30 minutes. I drove within the buoy-marked area on the water and returned to the dock when time was up. The area I could explore felt wider than I expected.

Dogs could ride too. Rather than a fast-paced activity, I thought it would suit people who want to enjoy the scenery slowly with a dog or child.

What are the café seats and river views like?

The entire second floor was café space, with plenty of seating. From the window seats, the Namdaecheon River view opened up clearly, making it a good place to sit and rest for a while.

What discount was available, and what did I eat?

I felt the menu prices were reasonable. At the time of my visit, the Digital Tourist Resident Card offered 10% off café menu items.

Getting the Digital Tourist Resident Card was not difficult either. If you are ordering several drinks, it may be worth checking the benefit before paying.

Dogs could stay with us inside the café too. It was a hot day, so I appreciated being able to rest together in an air-conditioned space.

I also had patbingsu (shaved ice with sweet red beans) that day. It had plenty of nuts over the red beans, plus ice cream, and was more filling than I expected. After walking around for a while, it was cool and sweet.
