Pork rib set with doenjang stew at Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch
In short
Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch is a pork rib restaurant on Songnang-ro in Yangju, Gyeonggi, where a bowl of naengmyeon (cold noodles) is free per person when you order meat. Ordering three servings of handmade Korean pork ribs with an added doenjang stew (soybean paste stew), the seasoning struck a good balance of sweet and salty that kept the chopsticks coming, backed by a varied spread of banchan (side dishes) including yukjeon and yukhoe. Manpo Galbi is famous in Yangju for pork ribs :) They give you a free bowl of naengmyeon per person when you order meat — great value, but the meat quality, service, and taste were all satisfying too, so I really had to write this review haha.

What's the restaurant like inside
The place is quite a bit bigger than a typical BBQ restaurant, so the tables aren't cramped, and everything is kept clean overall, making for a pleasant meal. Families often visit BBQ restaurants together, and it's uncomfortable if the space is too tight or chaotic. Manpo Galbi has plenty of room, so I thought it would work well for bringing parents along or for a bigger family gathering or family dinner.

Ordering three servings of handmade Korean pork ribs and doenjang stew
We ordered three servings of handmade Korean pork ribs with a doenjang stew. We visited at lunch, and the lunch special — ribs, naengmyeon, and doenjang sulbap all together — looked like a really great set too!

The banchan spread
Once you sit down, a full table of banchan to eat with the meat gets set out. Personally, at a BBQ restaurant, the main meat matters, but the quality of the side dishes also plays a big part in how satisfying the meal feels. Here, the range was great — yukjeon (pan-fried beef), yukhoe (beef tartare), various fresh salads, pickled vegetables, and more.

Here comes today's star — the seasoned pork ribs ~!

The moment the pork ribs hit the grill, that sweet, marinade-forward smell fills the air, and honestly, from that point on you can't not order rice lol. I think seasoned galbi looks best right when the sauce has reduced slightly on the grill and the outside starts turning golden brown.

We added a doenjang stew too
We also added a doenjang stew on top of everything. No matter how good the pork ribs and naengmyeon combo is, Koreans sometimes crave something warm and soupy in the middle of eating meat haha. A spoonful of doenjang stew, a bite of rice, then the pork ribs together — really filling and satisfying.

Taste and texture of the seasoned pork ribs
As the meat cooked, the sauce bubbled away on the grill and the outside started to caramelize slightly — just watching it made my mouth water. Seasoned pork ribs can easily burn on the outside or turn dry if you're not careful with the sauce, but cooked properly on both sides, the outside was slightly golden while the inside stayed soft and juicy.

Some seasoned pork rib places taste great on the first bite but get sickly sweet or too heavy after a few pieces. Manpo Galbi's handmade Korean pork ribs had a good balance of sweetness and savory saltiness, so I kept reaching for more 🖤🖤🖤 The seasoning soaked all the way through the meat, so it was delicious even eaten plain, with nothing else.

Even though it's seasoned galbi, it wasn't overly soft and mushy, nor tough or dry — it had a pleasant chew while still being tender. It's an easy style for kids and adults alike to enjoy, and I could see why pork ribs are such a popular family dinner choice haha.

Free naengmyeon with a meat order
And one of the things I was most looking forward to at Manpo Galbi! Naengmyeon comes free — order meat, and you get one bowl of naengmyeon per person at no extra cost. These days, if you order meat and add on rice dishes at a BBQ restaurant, the bill adds up more than you'd expect, so having the naengmyeon dessert thrown in for free is a real perk 〜️⭐️🫶🏻 Personally, a pork rib meal without naengmyeon feels somehow unfinished lol, so this was a service I especially loved.

Bbeong-twigi and ice cream for dessert
For dessert, they have bbeong-twigi (puffed rice snack) plus an ice cream machine, so both kids and adults should love it. Dessert sorted, meal complete 🎵
How is it as a family dinner spot in Yangju
If you're looking for a Yangju BBQ restaurant to bring your parents to, visit with kids, or gather a group comfortably for a family dinner in Yangju, Manpo Galbi is worth a visit. If you love pork ribs, be sure to enjoy the meat and finish off with the naengmyeon :)
