I'd been here once before with a friend over the summer and remembered it fondly, so this time I came back with my mom. I originally found it while looking for a good spot near Lakewood CC, and the second visit lived up to the first.

Why we returned to Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi near Lakewood CC

Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi Yangju Branch sits on Mansong-ro around Lakewood CC, and it always caught my eye whenever I passed by. Last summer, on a weekend, there was even a wait — but this time, on a weekday evening, we had a relaxed meal.

When I first moved to Yangju, there weren't many restaurants around here. Not many people either, and finding somewhere to eat out wasn't easy. These days the vibe has changed a lot.

What we ordered in Yangju: 4 servings of charcoal dakgalbi and 2 makguksu

This time, my mom and I ordered a total of four servings of charcoal dakgalbi and two servings of makguksu.

Table set with a charcoal brazier before ordering

The biggest thing about this place is that it's a Yangju dakgalbi specialist that grills over charcoal rather than on a regular griddle.

Since it comes out after a pre-sear once you order, it does take a little time to arrive.

So I'd recommend ordering generously the first time around — if you order more later, it needs another round of pre-searing. Personally, I think three servings is about right for two adults.

Is the makguksu at Seorak Makguksu worth ordering first?

The first bowl of makguksu served

The makguksu that arrived first was already delicious.

Makguksu before adding sugar and vinegar

Mixed with a bit of sugar and vinegar, that tangy-sweet aroma really came through and got my appetite going.

The buckwheat noodles' texture was great, and the seasoning was just right, so my chopsticks kept going back for more.

One bowl alone would've been filling, but my mom and I both eat pretty well, so between us we finished 2 servings of dakgalbi and then ordered 2 more.

A plate of extra charcoal dakgalbi ordered on top

It was delicious with the makguksu and also worked well piled into a wrap. I could see exactly why so many people look for this place as a Lakewood CC restaurant.

What the charcoal-grilled dakgalbi tastes like

With that red sauce coating it, I expected it to be spicy, but it was milder than I thought and not too heavily seasoned. It's a flavor anyone could enjoy without much concern.

A tender piece of grilled dakgalbi made from chicken thigh

Above all, since they use chicken thigh, the texture was really tender.

One bite and you get that juicy moisture along with the charcoal aroma layered in — I couldn't stop reaching for more.

On top of that, since the staff grill it for you directly, you don't have to worry about the grilling yourself and can just relax and eat, which was another plus.

That also makes it a good choice for family meals out or visits with parents.

The best way to eat Yangju dakgalbi: cabbage wraps with soy sauce and wasabi

Basic side dishes served with the dakgalbi

The side dishes that came with it were pretty satisfying too.

Crunchy radish salad and cabbage for wraps

It was tasty with the crunchy radish salad, but the combo I really loved was dipping cabbage in the soy-wasabi sauce and eating it together with the dakgalbi.

The crunchy cabbage texture paired so well with the moist dakgalbi that I kept making wraps out of it.

Paired with the makguksu, it made for an even more filling meal.

Personally, this combination is what makes it stand out among Yangju dakgalbi restaurants.
