While traveling in Mokpo, I put a lot of thought into dinner and chose Simdon Mokpo Pyeonghwagwangjang Branch, a Korean BBQ spot at Pyeonghwagwangjang where pork neck, pork belly, and pork skin all arrive grilled together on one platter—so all we had to do was eat comfortably.
It is across from Lotte Max at Pyeonghwagwangjang in Sang-dong; just look for the eye-catching yellow sign. There is also a public parking lot across the street, making it an easy visit (free parking is available on weekends).
Inside and seating at Simdon Mokpo Pyeonghwagwangjang Branch

Simdon in Mokpo Pyeonghwagwangjang was clean and spacious, with tables and seating suitable for a crowd, so it seems fine for group visits too. We came around 5, but... even though it was Sunday, it was full by 6 PM. We really did find a popular gem~ And once we ate, we understood even better why~!!

The stools have opening lids, so you can store your belongings, and high chairs are available too.
Simdon assorted grilled platter menu

We wanted to try the whole pork belly, flower-cut pork neck, and pork skin, so we ordered the Simdon assorted grilled platter. The medium serves 2–3 people and is 650g for ₩43,000... Great value too, right!!!
There are lots of side dishes as well, plus dishes such as small-intestine hot pot, so if you come with a group, it would be nice to start round two with that kind of vibe, haha.

They even have a guide on how to enjoy it! The owner who worked this out really knows good food... All three methods were seriously delicious!!!

You can order through the Hi Order tablet at the table! They also generously provide services including pineapple enzyme, hair ties, hot packs, blankets, and battery charging.
If you write a Naver photo review, you can also get one Excellent ice cream per person :)
A fully grilled assorted platter spread

As soon as we sat down, they quickly set out the banchan (Korean side dishes)—doenjang nurungji soup with beef brisket, scallion salad in house sauce, myeonginamul pickled leaves, assorted sauces, wrap vegetables, pickled radish wraps, and more. Bottled water was provided too.
What kind of service is this..!! The beef-brisket doenjang stew with nurungji (scorched rice) was nutty and slightly thick, and delicious from the start, so my expectations shot up!! It was perfect to have with a first drink.

They also put the Simdon assorted grilled platter on the grill. They said the meat could be eaten right away, with only the vegetables needing a little more cooking. It was such a generous spread, practically overflowing from the grill!!

The fully grilled meat came with red bean sprouts, kimchi, meljeot (fermented anchovy sauce), chives and water parsley, pineapple, and mushrooms. Since we could eat right away, our clothes did not pick up much smell, and it was sooo convenient~ It made me think this would be a lovely place for families with young children, who may find it hard to visit a Korean BBQ restaurant, to come out for a meal!!

Free extra-cheesy steamed egg before 6 PM
Just as we were about to properly try a bite, the extra-cheesy steamed egg came out too. Huh? We did not order this? As it turned out, they serve steamed egg free before 6 PM!! We came without knowing—such a great bonus!!

It had a fluffy, overflowing look, with cheese stretching on and on~~ I could not even tell how far it would go. The cheese-rich steamed egg was soft and delicious too.

The pork pairing with salted herring roe
For my first bite, I simply dabbed it in Maldon salt! The meat quality passed with flying colors!

After that, we decided to try each of the recommended ways to eat it. First: dolgim (stone-grown seaweed) + ssammu (pickled radish wrap) + cheongeoaljeot (salted herring roe). One hundred stars!!! This was my top pick. You can taste a special combination that is hard to find at other Korean BBQ places. Who knew herring roe went this well with pork..

Of course, the Maldon salt and wasabi combination, and the house-sauce scallion salad combination, were both clean-tasting and delicious as well.

I am also fully in favor of pairing it with water parsley and chives!! The whole pork belly had a nicely balanced fat-to-meat ratio and was rich, while the flower-cut pork neck had lovely, clean juices.

We dipped the pork skin in cumin, soybean powder, and spicy teriyaki sauce. It was tender, soft, and chewy! It had that addictive quality that makes you keep reaching for more. Including pork skin in the platter was such a good call..
Yum yum, even the moist, chewy mushrooms and grilled pineapple.

For our meal, we ordered nurungji soup (₩3,000) for my son, and it went wonderfully with kimchi too. We ate heartily and headed out~~

There is deodorizer ready by the exit too. There is an arcade right next door, so we even succeeded at a claw-machine round! After that~ it was a nice route to continue with a walk around Pyeonghwagwangjang.
