Suwon fish restaurant for family meals: Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda

In short

Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is a wood-fired fish restaurant in Suwon, Gyeonggi, serving grilled and braised fish. We ordered braised mackerel, grilled cutlassfish, and mulhoe, with roomy tables, self-service side dishes, and hot chocolate after the meal. Verdict: a lovely choice for a family meal with kids.

Our family absolutely loves grilled fish, so we often go looking for wood-fired grilled-fish restaurants on weekends. And we visited our family's favorite fish restaurant in Suwon, Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch (고등어명품이되다 수원점), again.

Visiting Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda in Suwon

Why it became our family's favorite grilled-fish restaurant

Honestly, when you visit grilled-fish specialty restaurants these days, the main dishes are all excellent, aren't they? Our family enjoys grilled fish wherever we go and is usually satisfied.

But the deciding reason our family especially loves this place is its neat, flavorful banchan (Korean side dishes). The seasoning on the side dishes you can freely help yourself to at the self-service bar is just right. In particular, the fragrant chamnamul greens salad is my husband's favorite, so we always end up getting a refill. 👍👍

They also have delicious sikhye (sweet rice punch). 💛

On top of that, the pleasant interior and spacious distance between tables make it really comfortable to visit with a child. You can keep a stroller beside your table, and I saw plenty of families visiting with babies in strollers.

Another advantage of Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda is its large parking area. There is plenty of parking right in front, so you can visit without worrying about where to park.

Spicy braised mackerel and grilled cutlassfish together

The main dishes we ordered that day were braised mackerel and grilled cutlassfish.

A full spread of braised mackerel and grilled cutlassfish

As always, the grilled cutlassfish came out beautifully golden from the wood-fired oven. After I removed a few bones and placed it over rice, my child polished off a whole bowl. 😋 The edges were crisp, while the flesh inside stayed moist and glossy.

When we come here, we cannot skip the braised dishes as well as the grilled ones. The braised mackerel, steeped in a deep, spicy sauce, had no fishiness at all; it was pleasantly spicy and packed with savory depth—a true rice thief. Mixing a big piece of tender radish and thoroughly braised mackerel with rice really brought my appetite to life. 😙

The spicy braised mackerel won over the adults, while the nutty, mild grilled cutlassfish took care of a rice side dish for the child, making this just the right combination for the whole family.

Refreshing mulhoe, our summer specialty order

After eating the braised mackerel and grilled cutlassfish, the refreshing mulhoe on the menu really caught my eye! So this time, we ordered mulhoe too.

Ordered summer-specialty mulhoe

The highlight of the day: mulhoe (chilled raw fish soup)! The moment I swallowed a sip of the broth dotted with fine ice crystals, I felt refreshed right down to my chest. More than anything, it felt generously filled with raw fish, vegetables, and other ingredients, so we enjoyed it cleanly without a trace of regret until the last spoonful. It was pure refreshing tanginess that swept away the summer heat.

Catchtable waiting and hot chocolate after the meal

When you visit on weekends, the wait tends to be long—as you would expect from a popular restaurant. 🥲 So we mostly visit on weekdays, but if you do come on a weekend, you can join the wait through Catchtable in front of the restaurant. There is also a spacious, pleasant waiting area to one side.

After our delicious meal today, we tried the hot chocolate in the waiting area. Once we got a cup of sweet hot chocolate, my child's eyes lit up and they drank it so happily. It was a lovely meal out that felt perfectly finished, right down to the final dessert.

From wood-fired grilled fish that is crisp outside and moist inside, to neat side dishes, cooling mulhoe that chases away summer heat, and sweet hot chocolate for dessert! It is a place where both children and adults can have a thoroughly satisfying meal, so it always leaves us feeling good. If you are looking for a pleasant, delicious grilled-fish restaurant in Suwon to visit with a child, I wholeheartedly recommend giving Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda a try!
