Sea bream and flounder sashimi takeout hotel picnic: Uchangho, Yeosu
In short
Uchangho Sashimi Takeout & Direct Sales Market is a fresh sashimi direct sales market on Sinwol-ro in Ungcheon-dong, Yeosu. Ordering 1 kilo of black sea bream, the shop mixed in some flounder since the amount seemed off, so 40,000 won bought a comparison plate of two sashimi types, still fresh at the accommodation thanks to the ice pack packaging. If you want a plate piled high with sashimi with no filler radish salad, for 30,000–40,000 won per kilo, Uchangho is the answer.

On this trip to Yeosu I found an insanely good-value sashimi restaurant. It was so good I'm already planning to go back,,,

You can park here and just walk over. The parking area is spacious so there's no need to worry. This is technically Ungcheon-dong, but it's only 10-13 minutes by car from Yi Sun-sin Square, so it's a quick trip.

On the way to the shop we saw boats and walked along breathing in the clear sky and sea air.

Park and walk just a little, and this Yeosu sashimi restaurant, Uchangho Sashimi Takeout & Direct Sales Market, comes right into view!
Menu prices: 30,000-40,000 won per kilo

These are the prices as of August 31. You can really eat well for great value, from the 30,000s to the 40,000s won per kilo. Sea bass is 45,000 won/kg, red sea bream 35,000 won/kg, flounder 40,000 won/kg. It's blue crab season now too, and that was 15,000 won/kg.

There are two fish tanks, one outside and one inside. The husband catches the seasonal fish himself and the wife sells it directly, so this is really a place where you can taste true wild-caught sashimi. I love this kind of direct sales market for seafood. That's how you get more for your money and eat it cheaper.
Reserve ahead for pickup with no waiting

We pre-ordered before visiting!! Same-day reservations are also possible, so if you make sure to reserve before you go, you can pick it up right away without waiting.

This Yeosu sashimi restaurant, Uchangho, packs everything carefully with ice packs too, so there's nothing to worry about even in summer. I was worried since our accommodation was a bit of a distance away, but that worry was totally unnecessary haha.
Black sea bream + flounder, 1kg for 40,000 won

Black sea bream + flounder (1kg), 40,000 won

Actually we ordered black sea bream, but they said the amount seemed a bit uncertain so they mixed in some flounder haha. Which turned out to be even better! Flounder is soft and mild, easy for beginners to eat, while black sea bream has a springy, chewy texture with a deeper savory flavor. So comparing the two as we ate made it even more delicious haha.

We ended up eating the flounder fin too, by chance. It's not an exaggeration to say you eat flounder just for this fin,,

A tip for eating takeout sashimi even chewier
And speaking as a genuine seafood lover, this is truly the real deal,, everyone,, that freshness of something just caught!!!! So there's a little trick for eating this kind of sashimi!! If you're taking it home to eat right away indoors, put it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes before eating — it gets even chewier. (It should never actually freeze, just get slightly cold.) If you're eating it outside, just lay down the ice pack that comes with the packaging underneath.

And even though it was just 1kg, the amount was seriously amazing,,, you know how most places pad the plate with cheon-sachae (imitation shredded radish garnish) to make it look like more? None of that here — it was just a plate completely filled with black sea bream and flounder sashimi.
I also personally liked the vinegar sauce they gave us, since the package had ssamjang, wasabi, soy sauce, and chojang (vinegar-chili sauce) all included haha. That kind of thoughtful touch was really nice.

I dipped it in wasabi too, and that day the chojang was especially good, so I kept dipping it in wasabi mixed into the chojang.

Back at the accommodation, we wrapped it up with perilla leaves we'd bought beforehand. It was so chewy and fresh you could really feel it in your mouth, and it was so delicious. I can't believe you can eat that much at this price, T.T This is exactly why I seek out direct sales markets for seafood,,,
Summary
When looking for insanely good-value sashimi takeout in Yeosu: you can eat for 30,000-40,000 won per kilo, with generous portions and low prices.
