Takeout mala tang and mala xiang guo

Level 4 mala takeout near Deokcheon Station

Craving that tongue-tingling aroma and bright heat near Deokcheon Station, I stopped by Mara Golmok, a popular spot in Deokcheon-dong, Busan. The restaurant was newly renovated for its fifth anniversary, with repairs completed and professional cleaning carried out, they said. Even more types of ingredients had been added, making everything feel fresher. This time, I ordered both mala tang and mala xiang guo at level 4 for takeout. It was properly spicy, yet the kind of flavor that kept drawing my chopsticks back, so it was a happy meal at home too.

A takeout set that was easy to carry

Takeout food in a handled bag

The food was neatly packed in containers so it would not leak, then placed in a handled bag that was easy to carry.

Opening the containers revealed plenty of vegetables, noodles, mushrooms, and other ingredients among the glossy red sauce. The rice and danmuji (yellow pickled radish) were packed separately, so it was easy to set out a tidy meal at home.

Being able to alternate between the broth and the stir-fry made me glad I had ordered both dishes. Although it was a takeout order, each menu came with a rice, plus danmuji, so the spread felt substantial.
