Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang hours and parking
Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang is open Monday through Sunday from 11:30 to 23:00, with last order at 21:00. The address is 1F, 70 Yeokgoljungang-ro, Namyang-eup, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, and there are 20 parking spots in the restaurant's own lot.

I was out in Hwaseong and stopped by Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang, a place near Rolling Hills that I'd seen around a lot. Since you pick your own meat, the freshness and quality were excellent, and everything from the vibe to the service was pretty much perfect — I really want to recommend it. This time I had pork jowl and pork belly.

Inside Morakmorak: picking your own cut from the butcher case
The moment I walked in, the clean and spacious layout was the first thing I noticed. Butcher restaurants can sometimes feel cluttered or cramped, but here the tables and seats were all kept spotless, so the first impression was great. There was also so much meat to choose from that picking was half the fun.

The basic side dishes set out after ordering were neat and tidy, and the self-bar was packed with fresh items too. There was a nice variety — fresh lettuce leaves good for wraps, spicy-tangy scallion salad, and kimchi that's great grilled up golden.

How does the taco self-bar at Morakmorak work?
At Morakmorak you can use the taco self-bar. You lay golden-grilled pork belly or pork jowl on a lightly toasted tortilla, then pile on whatever sauces and vegetables you like to build your own taco.
This was my first time seeing a taco self-bar at a Korean barbecue place, and it felt genuinely fresh and appealing. I love tacos in general, so eating them alongside the meat was fantastic. Savory meat, tangy taco sauce, and crunchy vegetables together were a real treat. Honestly, the taco self-bar alone is reason enough for me to come back.

Unlimited beef tartare, muksabal and doenjang jjigae
The beef tartare (yukhoe), acorn jelly dish (mukbanchan), and soybean paste stew (doenjang jjigae) that come with the basic table setting are all unlimited refills, which was great — and the tartare was really tasty. It made me think, yeah, this is definitely a butcher's restaurant.

Pork jowl seared first, then knife-cut at your table
At Morakmorak, once you pick your meat it comes out already pre-seared, and the staff bring it to your table and knife-cut it for you there. Beyond the great quality of the meat itself, the neat presentation and friendly service round out a full three-for-three. The pork belly was fresh with no gamey smell, savory, and had that signature chewy texture — and the pork jowl was delicious too.

The doenjang jjigae eaten alongside the meat was really good — a savory broth with a spicy finish that cuts through the richness of the meat. It was loaded with tofu and vegetables too, the kind of deep flavor that makes you polish off a whole bowl of rice.

Wrapped up with the scallion salad or grilled kimchi that come as basic side dishes, it's clean and rich-free. It's also good wrapped with lettuce and wild garlic leaves. The pork jowl has such great flavor on its own that it was lovely with just a light dip in salt.

Pork belly or pork jowl at Morakmorak — which was better?
We grilled the pork belly first. As soon as it came out, the bright pink, fresh color and the good ratio of lean meat to fat made it clear — yep, this is a butcher restaurant. It's good with the scallion salad on the side, and I'd also recommend wrapping it in a taco.
After the belly, the grilled pork jowl was, to me personally, even better than the belly. The pale marbling and the distinct grain of the meat built up expectations before I even took a bite. Thanks to its ideal thickness, it grilled up crisp outside and juicy inside — the textbook definition of crisp-outside, tender-inside. Savory juices burst out with every bite, and there was zero gamey smell, so you could tell right away the meat quality was high.

The ramyeon cooked in Korean beef bone broth needs no explanation — it's a combination that just works. I'd eaten so much taco and doenjang jjigae by then that I was too full to finish it, which was a shame.

Worth it near Hwaseong City Hall and Rolling Hills?
Overall the meat was delicious, and between the side dishes, the doenjang jjigae, the unique treat of the taco self-bar, and the generous side menu, everything about the setup was excellent. With tidy food and friendly service both covered, I left very satisfied. It's a solid choice for family gatherings, work dinners, or date nights, and I plan to come back whenever I'm craving meat in Hwaseong.
I'd recommend this to anyone who loves meat and tacos and is planning a trip to the Rolling Hills hotel or Hwaseong City Hall.
