Seafood platter at a Gongdeok raw fish restaurant with open-air vibes
In short
Neoul Gongdeok Direct Branch is a raw fish and seafood platter restaurant right outside Exit 10 of Gongdeok Station in Mapo, Seoul. Sitting at a wide-open, yajang-style spot, two people ordered the medium seafood platter (₩62,000 for 3 people) and got full on scallops, whelks, whole golbaengi (sea snail), and steamed squid. The medium size, which includes steamed squid, is ₩3,000 cheaper than adding it to the small size, and since waiting starts around 6:30pm, a reservation is the smarter move.

I was looking for a decent dinner spot in Gongdeok and found Neoul! 🤍 It's a hot place to eat seafood and raw fish to your heart's content. The doors were wide open that day so we got to enjoy it with an open-air, yajang feel. 🫧 We ordered the seafood platter that day and it was seriously x1000 delicious!

Menu — aged raw fish and seafood platter

Their signature menus are aged raw fish (sukseonghoe) and the seafood platter 🫢 I'd had raw fish not long ago so I went with the seafood platter instead. We ordered the medium size, which comes with steamed squid included, and the two of us ate until we were completely stuffed. There were also plenty of side dishes to order, making it a good spot for group visits.
Open-air feel interior and the waiting line
The doors were wide open so the outside breeze drifted in gently.. 🤍 It wasn't fully outdoors, but with the view outside clearly visible from inside, it had that yajang (open-air pub) feel.

The basic snack was popped corn kernels!

Old newspapers were laid out on the table. I thought it might be a fake prop at first, but seeing them slightly faded made me think they were real newspapers 🫢

Overall the vibe was retro. We visited with a reservation, but as more customers arrived, a waiting line started forming around 6:30. If you can, I'd recommend making a Naver reservation or arriving early.
Taste review — seafood platter medium, ₩62,000

For drinks, cheongha 🤓 Seafood and cheongha is a combo that never fails!

Seafood platter for 3, ₩62,000. It was a hefty spread packed with all kinds of seafood! Scallops, abalone, whelks, sea snails and other in-season seafood — close to 6 to 10 kinds went into this platter. Note that the seafood lineup can vary slightly by season.

Shrimp, squid, hard clams, whole golbaengi (sea snail), and more — most came out steamed warm and melted softly in the mouth… 🤍 Dip them in sesame oil sauce or vinegar-chili sauce and it's paradise.

Best of all, the portion was so generous we could dig in without worrying about the other person. I thought seafood wouldn't fill us up much, but it surprisingly did. Plus, there was such a variety of seafood that we never got tired of eating.

The scallops came out topped with chili and garlic, served almost like raw fish. 🫧 The clam meat was firmly stuck to the shell, so you need a spoon to pry it out cleanly.

There were toothpicks for the whelks so you could pull the meat right out. 🐚🤍 The innards came out too, which were great for a savory bite.

Ordering medium size includes steamed squid
The steamed squid included in the medium size was also really tasty. My original plan was to order small + add steamed squid separately, but ordering the medium size comes with the steamed squid included, saving ₩3,000. Nice nice 🤍

In the middle was a seasoned vegetable salad, which paired great with the seafood! Crunchy vegetables plus soft, chewy seafood — such a great match .. 💗

The platter came with white kimchi, mushrooms, and corn salad as side dishes, which we enjoyed alongside the meal.

Even looking back, the visuals are impressive. Most tables around us seemed to be having aged raw fish, but the seafood platter is a really solid choice too — highly recommend it.. 🫢

Cheers 🐷 Honestly, one bottle of cheongha wasn't even enough as we kept eating… that's how generous the seafood portion was!

A somewhat wild, dragon-like scene by the end

Why I'd recommend it as a seafood spot in Gongdeok
